Overview

The KRC HBM-13T is the smaller of two table-type horizontal boring mills in KRC's HBM Series. Its 130 mm (5 in) boring spindle turns at up to 4,000 rpm, and the work rides on a 1,250 mm (49 in) x 1,600 mm (62 in) table that travels 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in X.

On a table-type machine the part does the long move. The table provides X, the spindle head climbs the column for 1,600 mm (63 in) of Y, and the column itself feeds 1,250 mm (49 in) toward the work in Z. The boring spindle adds 750 mm (29.5 in) of W travel. Table load is 10,000 kg (22,020 lb), and KRC prints the same size and load again in its rotary table rows.

Spindle power is listed as 37 kW (50 HP) / 46 kW (62 HP) with 2,500 Nm (1,844 ft-lb) / 3,100 Nm (2,286 ft-lb) of maximum torque through an ISO 50 taper. Those are modest numbers beside the HBM-16T, which lists 4,150 Nm (3,061 ft-lb) / 5,500 Nm (4,057 ft-lb). They point this machine at boring, drilling and milling of medium-sized housings and frames rather than heavy roughing.

Quick positioning is the other half of its character. X, Y and Z rapids are 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm), with 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm) offered as an increased rate; W moves at 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm). KRC describes hydrostatic guideways and a hydraulic counterbalance for the series and says all models can be configured with different heads, control systems and travels.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4,000 rpm spindle, faster than the 3,150 rpm of the HBM-16T
  • Rapids of 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm) on X, Y and Z, with 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm) available as an increased rate
  • Four axes of reach on a compact frame: 2,000 mm (78.7 in), 1,600 mm (63 in), 1,250 mm (49 in) and 750 mm (29.5 in) on X, Y, Z and W
  • Rotary table of 1,250 mm (49 in) x 1,600 mm (62 in) for four-sided work in one clamping

Limitations

  • Table load is limited to 10,000 kg (22,020 lb), half the 20,000 kg (44,040 lb) of the HBM-16T
  • Maximum torque of 2,500 Nm (1,844 ft-lb) / 3,100 Nm (2,286 ft-lb) rules out the heaviest face milling and large-bar roughing
  • Boring spindle travel is 750 mm (29.5 in), so deep bores depend on the column Z travel as well
  • The faster 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm) rapids are an option, not the base rate

Best For

Gearbox housings, pump bodies and machine frames up to 10,000 kg (22,020 lb) Four-sided machining on the 1,250 mm (49 in) x 1,600 mm (62 in) rotary table Boring and milling work that benefits from a 4,000 rpm spindle Shops that need boring mill reach without a floor-type foundation

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size parts fit on the KRC HBM-13T?

The table measures 1,250 mm (49 in) x 1,600 mm (62 in) and carries 10,000 kg (22,020 lb). Travels are 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in X, 1,600 mm (63 in) in Y and 1,250 mm (49 in) in Z, with 750 mm (29.5 in) of boring spindle travel on W. The part has to swing inside those travels when the rotary table indexes.

02 How fast is the HBM-13T spindle?

The 130 mm (5 in) boring spindle runs to 4,000 rpm with an ISO 50 taper. Power is listed as 37 kW (50 HP) / 46 kW (62 HP) and maximum torque as 2,500 Nm (1,844 ft-lb) / 3,100 Nm (2,286 ft-lb). KRC does not label the two values of each pair.

03 What is the difference between the HBM-13T and the HBM-16T?

The HBM-16T is one size larger: a 165 mm (6.5 in) spindle at 3,150 rpm, a 1,600 mm (63 in) x 2,000 mm (78 in) table for 20,000 kg (44,040 lb) and 2,500 mm (98 in) of X travel. The HBM-13T has the smaller spindle and table but the higher speed, 4,000 rpm, and faster standard rapids, 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm).

04 What are the rapid traverse rates of the HBM-13T?

X, Y and Z move at 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm) as standard. KRC lists an increased rapid rate of 25,000 mm/min (984 ipm) for the same three axes. The boring spindle axis, W, moves at 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm) in either case.
