Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Shibaura Machine BSF-150C that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Shibaura Machine BSF-150C is a floor-type horizontal boring and milling machine of the ram type, with a 150 mm (5.9 in) boring spindle carried in a 380 x 380 mm (14.9 in) square ram. It is sized to order. The column travels 4,500-18,000 mm (177-708 in) in X and the spindle head 2,500-4,000 mm (98-158 in) in Y. There is no table on the base machine: work sits on floor plates, or on an optional rotary table from the BR series.
Two axes feed toward the work. The ram extends 750 mm (30 in) in Z and the spindle a further 750 mm (30 in) in W, and each can be ordered with an optional 900 mm (35.4 in) stroke. Taking most of the reach on the ram keeps the boring spindle short and well supported, and leaves the spindle extension for bores the 380 mm ram section cannot enter.
The spindle runs 10-3,500 rpm on an AC 37/30 kW (50/40 hp) motor, rated 30 min/continuous. Rapid traverse is 20,000 mm/min (787.4 ipm) on X and Y, 15,000 mm/min (590.5 ipm) on Z and 10,000 mm/min (393.7 ipm) on W, and cutting feed covers 1-6,000 mm/min (0.04-236 ipm). On a machine whose X travel can reach 18,000 mm the rapid rate is not a detail, because moving between features at opposite ends of a long fabrication is part of every cycle.
Shibaura Machine lists positioning accuracy of ±0.007 mm (±0.0003 in) and repeatability of ±0.005 mm (±0.0002 in) on X, Y and Z. The magazine holds 60 tools and the control is listed as TOSNUC 999 / FANUC. How many faces can be reached in one setup depends on the attachments, all of them optional: an angle head, a facing head, a universal head and a 5-degree indexing head, with AAC and AATC changers.
The BTH-130.R24 shows the alternative layout, carrying its work on a 2,000 x 2,400 mm (78.7 x 94.4 in) table rated for 20,000 kg (44,000 lb). The BSF-150C is for parts too long or too heavy to put on a table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- X travel of 4,500-18,000 mm (177-708 in) and Y travel of 2,500-4,000 mm (98-158 in), built to suit the work
- Ram and boring spindle each extend 750 mm (30 in), with 900 mm strokes optional on both
- AC 37/30 kW (50/40 hp) spindle motor across a 10-3,500 rpm range
- Rapid traverse of 20,000 mm/min (787.4 ipm) on X and Y for long moves along the column travel
- Positioning accuracy of ±0.007 mm (±0.0003 in) and repeatability of ±0.005 mm (±0.0002 in) on X, Y and Z
- 60-tool magazine, plus optional angle, facing, universal and 5-degree indexing heads
Limitations
- No table is part of the machine: floor plates or an optional BR series rotary table have to be specified with it
- The angle head, facing head, universal head and 5-degree indexing head are all options, as are the 900 mm ram and spindle strokes
- Top spindle speed is 3,500 rpm, which limits small-diameter tooling
- W-axis rapid is 10,000 mm/min (393.7 ipm), half the 20,000 mm/min (787.4 ipm) of X and Y
- No machine weight, floor load or power supply row is listed, so foundation planning needs Shibaura Machine's drawings

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X, the cross movement of the column, is 4,500-18,000 mm (177-708 in). Y, the vertical movement of the spindle head, is 2,500-4,000 mm (98-158 in). The ram extends 750 mm (30 in) in Z and the spindle 750 mm (30 in) in W, and both can be ordered with 900 mm instead. The X and Y figures are ranges because the machine is configured to the work.
02
No. The table row reads floor plates or optional rotary tables from the BR series, configured to order. The workpiece is set on the floor plates in front of the column, and a rotary table is added when the part has to be turned to present more than one face to the spindle.
03
The 150 mm (5.9 in) boring spindle runs 10-3,500 rpm on an AC motor rated 37/30 kW (50/40 hp), 30 min/continuous. It is carried in a 380 x 380 mm (14.9 in) square ram. The table does not give a torque figure or a spindle taper.
04
Shibaura Machine lists positioning accuracy of ±0.007 mm (±0.0003 in) and repeatability of ±0.005 mm (±0.0002 in) on X, Y and Z. No figure is listed for W. On a floor-type machine the foundation has a large influence on what is achieved in practice, so the foundation drawing deserves the same attention as these figures.
05
The table lists an angle head, a facing head, a universal head and a 5-degree indexing head, all optional, together with AAC and AATC changers. The magazine holds 60 tools. Because each head is an option, a quotation should name the heads and changers it includes.
