Sharp STF-50 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Sharp STF-50 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Sharp or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

From the STF-50 upward, Sharp's big bore facing lathes share one cross slide stroke: 25.59 in (650 mm) of X-axis travel. On this model that stroke works under a 51.97 in (1320 mm) swing over the bed and 31.50 in (800 mm) over the cross slide.

Put those numbers side by side. Half the swing is about the distance from the spindle centre to the rim of the largest part, and the X stroke is very nearly that long. A single tool can therefore work across almost the whole face of a full-size flange without being moved on its post, which is the point of a facing lathe.

Z travel is 39.37 in (1000 mm) and there is no tailstock. The part hangs from the chuck, so its length and weight are limited by what the chuck and spindle bearings will carry, not by the bed. Chucks are optional accessories in 3 jaw and 4 jaw types; choose them with the heaviest job in mind.

The STF-50 weighs 21,800 lb (9,900 kg) and is 102.76 in (2,610 mm) wide and 87.20 in (2,215 mm) high. Its control is the FANUC Oi-TF, and the spindle motor is 30 hp with 40 hp or 50 hp optional.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much of a face can the STF-50 cut in one pass?

X-axis travel is 25.59 in (650 mm) under a swing of 51.97 in (1320 mm), so the stroke is close to the radius of the largest part. Sharp notes that X travel varies by the turret installed, and all turrets are options, so confirm the stroke for the tool post you order.

02 What changes between the STF-44 and the STF-50?

The STF-44 swings 44.09 in (1120 mm) with 21.65 in (550 mm) of X travel and weighs 20,500 lb (9,300 kg). The STF-50 swings 51.97 in (1320 mm) with 25.59 in (650 mm) of X travel and weighs 21,800 lb (9,900 kg). Z travel is 39.37 in (1000 mm) on both.

03 Does the STF-50 have a tailstock?

No. Sharp's bullet list for the STF series says plainly that it has no tailstock. The machine is a chucking lathe with 39.37 in (1000 mm) of Z-axis travel, and a 16" steady rest appears on the standard accessory list for parts that need a support near the chuck.

04 What are the dimensions and weight of the STF-50?

Width 102.76 in (2,610 mm), height 87.20 in (2,215 mm), weight 21,800 lb (9,900 kg). The bed is 31.88 in (810 mm) wide and 128.54 in (3265 mm) long.
