Overview

Sharp's 3080TC-F stretches the 30 in flat bed CNC lathe to 78.75 in (2,000 mm) between centers. The headstock is the one used across the 3000 series, with a 6.7 in (170 mm) bore, an A2-11 nose and a 20 hp (14.91 kW) motor, so the choice between this model and its siblings comes down to how long the work is and how much floor can be given up.

In numbers: the bed is 137.75 in (3,500 mm) long, Z travel equals the center distance, and the machine occupies 15.41 x 6.56 x 5.91 ft (4.69 x 1.99 x 1.80 m). It weighs 10,120 lb (4,590 kg). Compared with the 3060TC-F that is a modest gain in weight, 10,120 lb against 9,240 lb (4,191 kg), for the added center distance, which makes the 3080TC-F the economical length for a shop that sees a longer shaft only now and then.

Longer work brings deflection. A steady rest (3"- 8") is on the standard list and Sharp offers a steady rest with bearing and two follow up rests, (0.4" - 5.5") and (10"- 18"), as options. The tailstock is manual with air assist, a 5 in (125 mm) quill and 7.87 in (200 mm) of quill travel; a hydraulic tailstock worked by foot pedal can replace it.

Cutting data are the series values: 10-1,000 rpm in 2 automatically selected ranges, 118.11 ipm (3,000 mm/min) of cutting feed, a hydraulic 8 position turret. The Z-axis ball screw is 1.96 in (50 mm) in diameter.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 78.75 in (2,000 mm) between centers with a 6.7 in (170 mm) spindle bore
  • Only 10,120 lb (4,590 kg), close to the weight of the shorter 3060TC-F
  • Steady rest (3"- 8") and 16" 3-jaw chuck included as standard
  • Air assist manual tailstock with 7.87 in (200 mm) of quill travel
  • FANUC Oi-TF CNC with a 10.4" LCD screen and electronic handwheel

Limitations

  • One steady rest is standard; follow up rests for slender shafts are options
  • Spindle tops out at 1,000 rpm
  • The tailstock is manual unless the hydraulic option is ordered
  • Needs 15.41 ft (4.69 m) of floor length

Best For

Shafts, rolls and pipe up to 78.75 in (2,000 mm) long Shops that occasionally exceed the 59 in of the 3060TC-F Large-bore work fed through a 6.7 in spindle Repair turning by handwheel with CNC threading

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long a part can the 3080TC-F turn?

Distance between centers is 78.75 in (2,000 mm) and Z-axis travel is the same. The bed itself is 137.75 in (3,500 mm) long and 18 in (460 mm) wide.

02 Is the 3080TC-F heavier than the 3060TC-F?

Slightly. The 3080TC-F weighs 10,120 lb (4,590 kg) and the 3060TC-F 9,240 lb (4,191 kg). Overall length grows to 15.41 ft, while width and height stay at 6.56 ft and 5.91 ft.

03 What support is there for long, slender work?

The standard accessories include a steady rest (3"- 8") and an air assist manual tailstock with an MT6 center. Options are a steady rest with bearing, a follow up rest (0.4" - 5.5"), a follow up rest (10"- 18") and a hydraulic tailstock with foot pedal in lieu of the manual tailstock.

04 Does the longer bed change the spindle or turret?

No. The 3080TC-F keeps the A2-11 spindle with a 6.7 in (170 mm) bore, the 10-1,000 rpm range in 2 gear steps and the hydraulic 8 position turret with 4 internal and 4 external stations. Swing over the bed is 29.92 in (760 mm).
