Seibu MM35UP — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Seibu MM35UP that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Seibu or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Seibu MM35UP is a compact ultra-precision wire EDM for water-specification work, with an axis travel range of 350 × 300 × 230 mm (13.8 × 11.8 × 9.1 in) and a 350 kg (772 lb) workpiece limit. Only the MEX15, a far smaller machine with 150 × 150 × 120 mm (5.9 × 5.9 × 4.7 in) of travel, sits below it in the water range.

Short travel does not mean a small opening. The maximum workpiece is 700 × 630 × 220 mm (27.6 × 24.8 × 8.7 in), about twice the stroke in each plan direction. A mould plate with its features grouped in one area fits, even though it could never be cut from edge to edge.

Seibu rates taper cutting at ±10° for a work thickness of 220 mm (8.7 in). The U-V axes travel ±60 × ±60 mm (±2.4 × ±2.4 in), and ±45° at 40 mm (1.6 in) is an option. Wire from Φ0.05 to Φ0.3 mm can be run. Φ0.2 mm is standard.

Two neighbours are worth a look before deciding. The M35HP shares the frame, 1,640 × 2,060 × 1,955 mm (64.6 × 81.1 × 77.0 in) and 2,700 kg (5,952 lb), and differs in the table only by its Φ0.07 mm minimum wire. The M35LP is the oil-specification machine of the same outline, with less height: its travel is 350 × 300 × 170 mm (13.8 × 11.8 × 6.7 in) and its U-V travel ±40 × ±40 mm (±1.6 × ±1.6 in).

Smart NC control, the MPSC-20 power supply and the MF35-01 filtration device are listed for the model.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ultra-precision class machine at 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) and 1,640 × 2,060 × 1,955 mm (64.6 × 81.1 × 77.0 in)
  • Accepts workpieces up to 700 × 630 × 220 mm (27.6 × 24.8 × 8.7 in)
  • Wire range of Φ0.05 to Φ0.3 mm
  • Full ±60 × ±60 mm (±2.4 × ±2.4 in) U-V travel, more than the ±40 × ±40 mm (±1.6 × ±1.6 in) of the oil-specification M35LP
  • ±10° taper rated at the full 220 mm (8.7 in) work thickness

Limitations

  • Workpiece weight is capped at 350 kg (772 lb)
  • Maximum work thickness is 220 mm (8.7 in); the MM50UP accepts 300 mm (11.8 in)
  • Travel in plan is 350 × 300 mm, about half the permitted workpiece size
  • ±45° taper at 40 mm (1.6 in) is listed as an option only

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size of work suits the MM35UP?

The axis travel range is 350 × 300 × 230 mm (13.8 × 11.8 × 9.1 in). The table allows a workpiece up to 700 × 630 × 220 mm (27.6 × 24.8 × 8.7 in) and 350 kg (772 lb), so the practical limit for a part cut all round in one setup is the 350 × 300 mm stroke.

02 Is the MM35UP a water or an oil machine?

Seibu lists the MM35UP under its water-specification wire EDM heading. The oil-specification machine of the same 350×300 size is the M35LP, which has a shorter third axis and ±40 × ±40 mm (±1.6 × ±1.6 in) of U-V travel.

03 How fine a wire can the MM35UP run?

The listed range is Φ0.05 to Φ0.3 mm, with Φ0.2 mm as the standard wire. For finer wire Seibu's water range offers the MEX15, which is listed from Φ0.03 mm but takes only a 12 kg (26 lb) workpiece.

04 What is the difference between the MM35UP and the M35HP?

Both tables list the same travel, workpiece size, taper rating, dimensions and 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) weight. The MM35UP runs wire from Φ0.05 mm and the M35HP from Φ0.07 mm. Seibu heads the MM35UP as an ultra-precision machine and the M35HP as a precision machine.

05 Which control does the MM35UP have?

The control device is listed as Smart NC, paired with the MPSC-20 power supply. The filtration device named for this size is the MF35-01. Seibu's product page does not describe the control's functions in public; that part of its site is for registered members.
