How much does the ROMI G 550M cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the ROMI G 550M that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The ROMI G 550M adds driven tools to Romi’s heavy G Series turning center. Its M type turret has 12 stations on a BMT-75 disc, so drilling, milling and tapping can be done on a shaft or flange without moving it to a machining center. Maximum cutting diameter is 530 mm (21 in) and maximum cutting length 1,300 mm (51 in).
Live tooling on this machine is sized to match the lathe. The driven-tool motor is rated 11 hp / 8.2 kW continuous with 56 Nm (41.3 lb-ft), spins from 3 to 3,000 rpm and drives ER 40 collets for Ø 3 to Ø 26 mm tools in both axial and radial holders. That is enough for real drilling and slotting in steel. The catalogue gives no Y-axis figure, so plan on milling and drilling on the centre line.
Turning power is unchanged from the fixed-tool model: 45.7 hp / 33.6 kW through an A2-8” spindle at up to 2,500 rpm with 680 Nm (502 lb-ft), or an A2-11” spindle at up to 2,000 rpm with 780 Nm (575 lb-ft). Thru-holes are 104 mm (4.1 in) and 142 mm (5.6 in). The table lists the reduction gearbox for the ROMI G 550 column only, which leaves the M version with direct drive.
Square tools are 25 x 25 mm (1 x 1 in) and boring bars Ø 50 mm (2 in). Travels are 280 mm (11 in) in X and 1,340 mm (53 in) in Z. The tailstock is the same automatic, hydraulically locked unit with an MT 5 built-in live center, and the Siemens Sinumerik 828D runs the machine. Weight is 8,780 kg (19,360 lbs).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- BMT-75 turret with 12 stations for fixed and driven tools
- Driven-tool motor of 11 hp / 8.2 kW with 56 Nm (41.3 lb-ft), continuous rating
- ER 40 axial and radial holders for Ø 3 to Ø 26 mm tools at 3 to 3,000 rpm
- Same 45.7 hp / 33.6 kW main motor as the fixed-tool G 550
- Cutting length of 1,300 mm (51 in) with a programmable tailstock
Limitations
- Cutting diameter is 530 mm (21 in), slightly under the 550 mm (22 in) of the G 550
- No reduction gearbox in the table for this version, so torque tops out at 780 Nm (575 lb-ft)
- Square tool section drops to 25 x 25 mm (1 x 1 in) on the M type turret
- No Y axis or second spindle is listed

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A 12-station M type turret with a BMT-75 disc. Axial and radial driven holders take ER 40 collets for Ø 3 to Ø 26 mm tools. The driven tool speed range is 3 to 3,000 rpm and the motor is rated 11 hp / 8.2 kW continuous, with 56 Nm (41.3 lb-ft) on the power graph.
02
Not at the main motor: both list 45.7 hp / 33.6 kW on the S2 - 30 min. rating and the same A2-8” and A2-11” headstocks. The difference is that the ZF reduction gearbox appears only in the G 550 column of the specification table.
03
X travel is 280 mm (11 in) and Z travel is 1,340 mm (53 in), with rapids of 20 m/min and 24 m/min. Swing over the Z axis cover is 685 mm (27 in). The tailstock body travels 1,143 mm (45 in) and its quill 130 mm (5.1 in).
