ROMI VT 3000M

Diameter without added weight capacity: the ROMI VT 3000M turns up to 3,400 mm (134 in) on a 3,000 mm (118 in) chuck, but its table is rated for the same 25,000 kg (55,100 lbs) as the VT 2500M. It is the choice for parts that are very wide and comparatively light for their size.

Wind turbine flanges, large slewing bearings and fabricated rings fit that description. They need reach more than load capacity, and the VT 3000M has 1,945 mm (77 in) of programmed X travel. Its table turns from 1 to 150 rpm, with a first range of 1 to 65 rpm. At the rim of a part this large, surface speed is reached at very low revolutions, so the lower top speed costs little.

The column and ram assembly is that of the VT 2500M. Turning height with the ram is 2,100 mm (83 in), ram travel 1,500 mm (59 in), and the cross rail moves between two columns over 1,386 mm in 9 steps. The ram section is 250 x 250 mm (9.8 x 9.8 in). On a 3.4 m part the ram works a long way from the columns, so finishing cuts at full reach deserve conservative depths.

Milling and drilling use the ISO 50 driven spindle at 3 to 3,000 rpm and 700 Nm (516.3 lb-ft), indexed by a C axis with 52,000 Nm (38,350 lb-ft) of torque. The magazine holds 20 tools. Dimensions are 6.8 m (268 in) of height and 9.3 x 5.2 m (366 x 205 in) of floor, and the machine weighs 60,000 kg (132,300 lbs). Control is by Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl.
