Price estimate
We do not have a price for the ROMI C 1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
One metre of swing and a spindle a pipe can pass through: that is the ROMI C 1000. It tops the standard C Series with 1,000 mm (39 in) over the bed, and its A2-20” headstock has a 375 mm (14.8 in) hole, which is why Romi points to parts and tubes with large diameters as its work.
Oil-country style turning is the obvious use. A threaded pipe end, a coupling or a long sleeve is fed through the headstock and gripped at the front, and with the optional 4-jaw independent rear chuck at the back as well. Range I of the A2-20” headstock runs from 1 to 125 rpm and produces 11,200 Nm (8,261 lb-ft), the highest torque in the series. If a 260 mm (10.2 in) hole is enough, the A2-15” headstock runs up to 550 rpm with 7,310 Nm (5,391 lb-ft) in its low range.
The frame underneath is shared with the C 830. Bed width is 460 mm (18.1 in), cross slide travel 520 mm (20 in), the motor 45 hp / 33.6 kW, and the machine comes in 3.0 / 5.0 m (118 / 197 in) between centers at the same listed weights. What changes is the height of the centers, 510 mm (20 in), and with it the swing over the cross slide: 700 mm (28 in).
That last figure matters for shaft work. A roll or a cylinder body up to 700 mm in diameter can run the full length of the bed over the carriage. Buyers should plan for the 5 m/min (197 in/min) Z rapid of the 5.0 m bed and for 40 kVA of installed power. Driven tools are available through an 8-station VDI - 50 turret with ER - 40 collets, and the control is the Siemens Sinumerik 828D used across the series.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- A2-20” headstock with a 375 mm (14.8 in) spindle hole for large tubes
- 11,200 Nm (8,261 lb-ft) in range I of the A2-20” headstock
- Swing of 1,000 mm (39 in) over the bed and 700 mm (28 in) over the cross slide
- Optional rear chuck holds long tubes at both ends of the spindle
- Optional 8-station VDI - 50 turret for driven tools, 3 to 3,000 rpm
Limitations
- The low range of the A2-20” headstock ends at 125 rpm
- Motor power is 45 hp / 33.6 kW, no more than on the smaller C 680
- Cross slide travel of 520 mm (20 in) is short against a 1,000 mm (39 in) swing
- Weighs 14,960 kg (32,980 lbs) in the 5.0 m version, so foundation and crane access need planning

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It depends on the headstock. The A2-15” headstock has a spindle hole of 260 mm (10.2 in). The A2-20” headstock has a hole of 375 mm (14.8 in), and Romi notes that the thru-hole enables machining of parts and tubes with large diameters.
02
The S6 - 40% power graphs show 7,310 Nm (5,391 lb-ft) in range I and 1,830 Nm (1,350 lb-ft) in range II for the A2-15” headstock, and 11,200 Nm (8,261 lb-ft) in range I and 2,800 Nm (2,065 lb-ft) in range II for the A2-20” headstock.
03
Capacity and spindle size. The C 1000 swings 1,000 mm (39 in) over the bed and 700 mm (28 in) over the cross slide, and its largest spindle hole is 375 mm (14.8 in). Bed lengths, cross slide travel, tailstock and the 45 hp / 33.6 kW motor are the same on both.
04
A manual drive quill tailstock with built-in MT-5 live center, positioned by drag through the table. The quill is 130 mm (5.1 in) in diameter with 200 mm (7.9 in) of stroke and a CM 5 taper hole. A hydraulic quill drive is optional.
