Johnford ST-240D — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Johnford ST-240D that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Johnford or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training

Overview

At 32,500 kg (71,500 lb) the Johnford ST-240D is the heaviest lathe on Johnford's page for the small-sized ST series, a name that covers machines up to 6,050 mm (238.2 in) of Z travel. This one has the longest bed and the largest spindle of that page together.

The figures at the two ends of the range show how wide it is. The ST-40A at the other end weighs 11,000 kg (24,200 lb), has 800 mm (31.5 in) of Z travel and turns at 3,000 rpm. The ST-240D has more than seven times the travel and a third of the speed, 1,000 rpm.

Its spindle is the D unit: A2-15 nose, 185 mm (7.3 in) bore, 165 mm (6.5 in) bar capacity, 240 mm (9.4 in) bearing diameter, four automatic speeds. Motors are 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) and, optionally, 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp).

A six-metre machine does not have to remain a plain lathe. The options run from a C axis and a live tool turret to a B-axis milling/turning spindle for simultaneous 4 or 5 axis machining. Tailstock travel is 5,400 mm (212.6 in) and length 11,667 mm (459.3 in).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the ST-240D compare with the smallest ST lathe?

The ST-40A has 800 mm (31.5 in) of Z travel, a 304 mm (12 in) chuck, 3,000 rpm and 11,000 kg (24,200 lb). The ST-240D has 6,050 mm (238.2 in), a 510 mm (20.1 in) chuck, 1,000 rpm and 32,500 kg (71,500 lb).

02 Can the ST-240D be equipped for milling?

Yes, through options: a 0.001° C axis for the main spindle, a 12-position live tool turret in VDI or BMT, Y-axis capability, and a B-axis milling/turning spindle for simultaneous 4 or 5 axis machining.

03 What is the tailstock travel of the ST-240D?

5,400 mm (212.6 in). The quill is Ø200 mm (7.9 in) in diameter with 150 mm (5.9 in) of travel and an MT#7 taper, and the tailstock is programmable.

04 What does the ST-240D measure?

11,667 x 2,504 x 2,895 mm (459.3 x 98.6 x 114 in). Machine weight is 32,500 kg (71,500 lb), so foundation and transport need early planning.
