How much does the ROMI C 470 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the ROMI C 470 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The ROMI C 470 is the smallest of the three New Generation C Series flat-bed CNC lathes: 470 mm (18.50 in) of swing over the bed, 1,000 mm (39.37 in) between centers and a 12.5 hp / 9 kW main motor. It is the only one of the three that Romi ships with an automatic turret as standard, an 8-position horizontal electric turret taking 25 x 25 mm (0.98 x 0.98 in) shanks.
Two headstocks are offered and the choice sets the character of the machine. The A2-5” spindle runs from 4 to 4,000 rpm with a 53 mm (2.08 in) bore and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft) of torque. The A2-6” version tops out at 3,000 rpm, opens the bore to 65 mm (2.56 in) and raises torque to 157 Nm (116 lb-ft). Bar and tube work points to the larger bore; small diameters that need surface speed point to the faster spindle.
Swing over the cross slide is 200 mm (7.87 in), so a shaft that has to pass under the turret is limited to that diameter even though a chucked disc can use far more of the 470 mm swing. X travel is 220 mm (8.66 in) and Z travel 1,065 mm (41.93 in), both moving at 10 m/min in rapid.
The control is a Siemens Sinumerik 828D. Romi also offers the RMMP package, which lets an operator drive the lathe with electronic handwheels like a manual machine, and that is the usual reason to pick a flat-bed lathe of this size for a toolroom or a maintenance shop. An optional driven-tool turret with a VDI - 30 disc runs tools from 0 to 4,500 rpm for cross holes and flats. The machine needs 20 kVA and weighs about 2,600 kg (5,732 lbs).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- An 8-position horizontal electric turret is standard on this model; on the C 570 and C 670 it is an option
- Choice of a 4,000 rpm A2-5” headstock or a 3,000 rpm A2-6” headstock with a 65 mm (2.56 in) bore
- Optional driven-tool turret with VDI - 30 disc and a 0 to 4,500 rpm tool speed range
- Compact for a between-centers lathe: 2.91 m (114.5 in) x 1.24 m (48.82 in) of floor space and 20 kVA of installed power
- Gang tooling and a 2 or 3 face quick-change tool holder are offered for this size only
Limitations
- Only 200 mm (7.87 in) swings over the cross slide, well under half the 470 mm (18.50 in) swing over the bed
- The 12.5 hp / 9 kW motor and 157 Nm (116 lb-ft) at best limit heavy roughing in steel
- The tailstock body and quill are both manual as standard; drag positioning and a hydraulic quill cost extra
- One bed length only: 1,000 mm (39.37 in) between centers

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It depends on the bore and the speed you need. The A2-5” headstock runs from 4 to 4,000 rpm with a 53 mm (2.08 in) spindle bore and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft). The A2-6” headstock runs from 3 to 3,000 rpm with a 65 mm (2.56 in) bore and 157 Nm (116 lb-ft). Both use the same 12.5 hp / 9 kW motor.
02
Swing over the bed is 470 mm (18.50 in), over the saddle wings 430 mm (16.93 in) and over the cross slide 200 mm (7.87 in). Distance between centers is 1,000 mm (39.37 in), with 1,065 mm (41.93 in) of Z travel and 220 mm (8.66 in) of X travel.
03
Yes. Romi lists the horizontal 8-position electric turret as standard on the C 470, with 25 x 25 mm (0.98 x 0.98 in) square shanks and Ø 25 mm (Ø 0.98 in) round tools. Gang tools, a rear tool holder, a quick-change tool holder and a driven-tool turret are options.

A Siemens Sinumerik 828D. Romi adds that the conversational ProgramGuide system generates programs from graphical input without ISO codes, and that the optional RMMP package allows manual-style operation with electronic handwheels and a joystick.
