Overview

The ROMI D 1000 is the 40-inch member of the D Series: 1,020 mm (40 in) of X travel over a 1,220 x 560 mm (48 x 22 in) table. In the cross axes nothing changes from the smaller machines, with 610 mm (24 in) of Y and 640 mm (25 in) of Z, so the extra capacity is all in length.

That length is useful in two ways. A long part, a rail or a plate, fits in one setup. Or the table takes a row of vises, and here a table longer than the stroke helps, because clamps and stops can sit outside the cutting zone. The table carries 1,100 kg (2,400 lbs), against 900 kg (2,000 lbs) on the D 800.

Spindle, changer and control are the series standard. The ISO 40 headstock comes as a 10 to 10,000 rpm version with 25 hp / 18.5 kW or as a 15 to 15,000 rpm version with 20 hp / 15 kW. The arm changer stores 30 / 48 tools. Axes rapid at 40 m/min (1,575 ipm), and the CNC is the Fanuc 0i-MF Plus i-HMI. Thermal compensation is part of the standard equipment, which matters more as the X axis gets longer.

The frame grows less than the stroke. Floor area is 3,390 x 3,795 mm (133 x 150 in) and net weight 6,900 kg (15,200 lbs) / 7,250 kg (15,980 lbs), against 6,600 kg (14,500 lbs) / 6,950 kg (15,300 lbs) for the D 800. Height stays at 3,140 mm (124 in) without the mist exhausting system.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,020 mm (40 in) of X travel under a 1,220 x 560 mm (48 x 22 in) table
  • Table load of 1,100 kg (2,400 lbs), uniformly distributed
  • Same 40 m/min (1,575 ipm) rapids as the shorter D 800
  • Thermal compensation and linear roller guides are standard
  • 30 / 48 tool arm changer with tools up to 300 mm (11.9 in) long

Limitations

  • Y travel stays at 610 mm (24 in) and the table is 560 mm deep, so wide plates do not fit
  • Z travel is 640 mm (25 in) with at most 750 mm (30 in) from spindle nose to table
  • Maximum tool weight is 7 kg (15 lbs)
  • Spindle torque is 118 Nm (87 lb-ft) at best; the catalogue lists no geared headstock

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the X travel of the ROMI D 1000?

X travel is 1,020 mm (40 in). Y travel is 610 mm (24 in) and Z travel is 640 mm (25 in). The table surface measures 1,220 x 560 mm (48 x 22 in), with 5 T-slots of 18 x 89 mm (0.71 x 3.5 in) width x distance.

02 How does the D 1000 compare with the D 1250?

The D 1250 extends X travel to 1,270 mm (50 in), on a 1,320 x 560 mm (52 x 22 in) table that carries 1,400 kg (3,000 lbs). The D 1000 has 1,020 mm (40 in) of X and carries 1,100 kg (2,400 lbs). Spindles, tool changer, Y and Z travels are the same.

03 Which spindles are available on the D 1000?

Two ISO 40 headstocks. One runs from 10 to 10,000 rpm with a 25 hp / 18.5 kW motor and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft). The other runs from 15 to 15,000 rpm with a 20 hp / 15 kW motor, 102 Nm (75.2 lb-ft) and a cooled cartridge as standard.

04 How much floor space does the D 1000 need?

The area, front x side, is 3,390 x 3,795 mm (133 x 150 in) without a chip conveyor, and the height is 3,140 mm (124 in) without the optional mist exhausting system. Machine net weight is 6,900 kg (15,200 lbs) / 7,250 kg (15,980 lbs).
