Overview
A long Z-axis and a wide choice of pallet chucks define the Röders RPT800DSH, the largest 5-axis machine of the RPT series. Its machining range is 560 mm x 635 mm x 500 mm (22.0 x 25.0 x 19.7 in), and it carries workpieces up to 200 kg (441 lb) on tables of 350 mm or 400 mm, round or square.
Röders notes that besides the long Z range the machine offers a relatively large maximum diameter for workpieces. It also explains how the unit is laid out: even a workpiece clamped with a pallet on a chuck, such as EROWA UPC, sits close to the swivel axis. That reduces the compensating movements of the linear axes in 5-axis machining. A part raised on a pallet and chuck normally ends up well above the swivel axis, so this is a design decision aimed squarely at automated, palletised work.
