Overview

The Goodway GV-1000 is a turret-type vertical turning center for chucks from 18 in to 32 in, turning Ø1,000 mm (39.4 in) and 760 mm (29.9 in) high. It sits between Goodway's compact GV-780 and the ram-type GV-1100: bigger than the first, but still a turret lathe with quick tool changes instead of a ram and tool magazine.

Its spindle is geared. A motor rated 22 kW (29.5 hp) continuous and 30 kW (40.2 hp) for 30 min. works through a 2-speed gearbox to give 2,320 Nm (1,711 lb-ft) continuous and 3,765 Nm (2,777 lb-ft) on the 30 min. rating. For comparison within the range, the GV-780 peaks at 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft).

Guideways are mixed by purpose. X uses roller-type linear guides for control and quick positioning, at 24 m/min (945 ipm), and Z uses wide box ways to carry cutting load, at 20 m/min (787 ipm). X travel is 525 mm (20.7 in) and Z travel 765 mm (30.1 in). The column is a single casting.

A 12-station servo turret takes 32 mm (1.3 in) square O.D. tools and Ø60 mm (2.4 in) boring bars, on what Goodway calls an extra-large turret disk. The optional live tooling turret has 12 driven stations at 3,000 rpm with a drive motor of 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) or 5.5 kW (7.4 hp); Goodway describes it as an ER50 unit. A Cf-axis on a worm gear accompanies it. Two controls are listed, FANUC Oi-TF Plus and 31i.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What chuck sizes fit the GV-1000?

Goodway lists chuck sizes from 18 in to 32 in. Maximum turning diameter is Ø1,000 mm (39.4 in), swing Ø1,020 mm (40.2 in) and maximum turning height 760 mm (29.9 in).

02 How much torque does the GV-1000 spindle have?

2,320 Nm (1,711 lb-ft) continuous and 3,765 Nm (2,777 lb-ft) on the 30 min. rating, from a 22 kW (29.5 hp) continuous, 30 kW (40.2 hp) 30 min. motor and a 2-speed gearbox.

03 What are the travels and rapids of the GV-1000?

X-axis travel is 525 mm (20.7 in) with rapids of 24 m/min (945 ipm). Z-axis travel is 765 mm (30.1 in) with rapids of 20 m/min (787 ipm). X runs on roller-type linear guides and Z on box ways.

04 Can the GV-1000 be fitted with live tooling?

Yes, in the M variation. The 12-station live tooling turret runs at 3,000 rpm with a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) or 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) drive motor, and a Cf-axis with 0.001° indexing is included. Goodway says only the tool in the working position rotates.
