Quaser HX404 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Quaser HX404 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Quaser or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Quaser HX404 is a twin-pallet horizontal machining center built around a 400 mm (15.8") square pallet, with a 40 taper spindle and travels of 560 mm (22.1") in X, 640 mm (25.2") in Y and 640 mm (25.2") in Z.

Look at the height figure before anything else. Maximum work piece height is 900 mm (35.4"), on a pallet only 400 mm (15.8") across, and the maximum work swing diameter is Ø630 mm (Ø24.8"). Quaser says the large Z axis span lets the machine deal with high work pieces. In practice that means tall tombstones: four faces of small parts stacked well above the pallet, which is how a 400-class horizontal earns its keep. The pallet carries 400 kg (882 lbs), so a tall steel tombstone with full fixtures needs weighing.

The B axis is listed with a minimum indexing of 1/0.001 degrees, and two pallets are exchanged by an arm type changer. Maximum spindle speed is given as 12K ~ 20K. The magazine holds 60 tools as standard, up to 76.2 mm (3") in diameter, 125 mm (4.92") with the neighboring pots empty, and 350 mm (13.78") long.

Chip control is described in some detail: W-shaped Z axis telescopic covers, integrated coolant wash, internal chip augers and an external lift up chip conveyor. Quaser adds that the machine can be combined with a multi-pallet system and a larger tool magazine, and stresses its small floor space.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Work pieces up to 900 mm (35.4") high on a 400 mm (15.8") pallet
  • 60 tools as standard, up to 350 mm (13.78") long
  • Two pallets with an arm type pallet changer keep the spindle cutting during loading
  • W-shaped Z axis telescopic covers, coolant wash, internal chip augers and a lift up chip conveyor
  • Quaser states it can be combined with multi-pallet storage and a larger tool magazine

Limitations

  • Pallet load is 400 kg (882 lbs), which a tall tombstone with fixtures can approach quickly
  • X travel of 560 mm (22.1") is the shortest of the HX horizontals; the HX504 has 762 mm (30")
  • No spindle power, torque or rapid traverse figure is published
  • Tool diameter is limited to 76.2 mm (3") unless neighboring pots are left empty

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What pallet size does the Quaser HX404 use?

A 400 mm (15.8") square pallet. The maximum work swing diameter is Ø630 mm (Ø24.8"), the maximum work piece height is 900 mm (35.4") and the load capacity is 400 kg (882 lbs). The machine has 2 pallets and an arm type changer.

02 What are the HX404 travels?

560 mm (22.1") in X, 640 mm (25.2") in Y and 640 mm (25.2") in Z. The B axis minimum indexing is listed as 1/0.001 degrees.

03 How many tools does the HX404 hold?

60 as standard. Tools can be 76.2 mm (3") in diameter with adjacent pots filled, 125 mm (4.92") with neighboring pots empty, and 350 mm (13.78") long. Quaser notes a larger tool magazine can be combined with the machine for automated running.

04 How does the HX404 deal with chips?

Quaser lists W-shaped Z axis telescopic covers to deal with stacked chips, together with integrated coolant wash, internal chip augers and an external lift up chip conveyor.

05 Can the HX404 be automated?

Quaser says the HX404 can be combined with multi-pallet storage and a larger tool magazine. It also lists an HX404 Cell, which has 8 or 14 pallets and 240 tool positions as standard.
