Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Quaser HX404 Cell that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Quaser HX404 Cell is the HX404 horizontal machining center delivered as a flexible manufacturing cell: the same 400 mm (□15.8") pallet and the same travels, but with 8 or 14 pallets in storage and 240 tool positions as standard. It belongs to what Quaser calls the FMC series, an automated solution meant to run from a single machine up to multiple production lines.
Pallet handling works in two stages. A swing type changer serves the machine internally, and a matrix type store holds the pallets outside it. With 8 or 14 fixtures loaded, the cell can work through a queue of different jobs, or a long run of one job, without an operator at the load station for each cycle.
The tool count is the other half of unattended running. 240 positions is four times the 60 of the standalone HX404, enough to keep sister tools for worn cutters and the full tool sets of several parts in the magazine at once. Tool limits are 76.2 mm (3") in diameter, 125 mm (4.9") with neighboring pots empty, and 350 mm (13.8") in length.
Some figures differ from the standalone machine. Maximum work piece height is 740 mm (29.1") here, against 900 mm (35.4") on the HX404, so tall tombstones must be checked. The spindle is listed at 15K ~ 20K. Travels are 560 mm (22.1") in X and 640 mm (25.2") in Y and Z, the swing is Ø630 mm (Ø24.8"), and each pallet carries 400 kg (882 lbs).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 8 or 14 pallets with a matrix type external store and a swing type internal changer
- 240 tool positions as standard, four times the HX404
- Spindle speed listed as 15K ~ 20K on a 40 taper
- Quaser describes simple installation and ease of maintenance for the FMC series
- Same 560 x 640 x 640 mm travel as the standalone HX404
Limitations
- Work piece height is limited to 740 mm (29.1"), less than the 900 mm (35.4") of the HX404
- Each pallet still carries only 400 kg (882 lbs)
- Quaser publishes no cell footprint, pallet exchange time or spindle power for this model
- X travel is 560 mm (22.1"); wider parts need the HX504 Cell with 762 mm (30")

Frequently Asked Questions
01
8 or 14, depending on the configuration. Quaser lists the method as swing type (internal) and matrix type (external): a swing changer exchanges pallets at the machine and a matrix store holds the rest. Each pallet is 400 mm (□15.8") and carries 400 kg (882 lbs).
02
Automation and capacity. The HX404 has 2 pallets and 60 tools as standard; the HX404 Cell has 8 or 14 pallets and 240 tools. Maximum work piece height is 740 mm (29.1") on the HX404 Cell instead of the 900 mm (35.4") of the HX404, and its spindle is listed at 15K ~ 20K instead of 12K ~ 20K. Travels are the same.
03
240 magazine positions as standard. Maximum tool diameter is 76.2 mm (3"), or 125 mm (4.9") with neighboring pots empty, and maximum tool length is 350 mm (13.8").

Parts within a Ø630 mm (Ø24.8") swing and 740 mm (29.1") of height, on a 400 mm (□15.8") pallet. Travels are 560 mm (22.1") in X, 640 mm (25.2") in Y and 640 mm (25.2") in Z.
