We do not have a price for the Hedelius FORTE 9-6200 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hedelius FORTE 9-6200 has an X travel of 6,200 mm (244.1 in), the longest in the FORTE 9 series. The fixed table of this 3-axis travelling column machining centre measures 6,680 x 900 mm and is rated for 6,000 kg (13,228 lb). Y travel is 900 mm and Z travel 1,005 mm, the same cross-section as the shorter FORTE 9 models.
Who needs six metres? Shops that machine rails, beams, long welded frames and machine bases in one clamping, where a re-clamp would cost more accuracy than any axis error. Hedelius states positioning accuracy as A=6 µm/1,000 mm to ISO 230-2 and uses direct measuring systems. The travelling column is grey cast iron, which the maker describes as torsionally rigid with excellent vibration damping over long travel paths.
The second way to use the length is to split it. Pendulum operation is listed as 2,825 x 2,825 mm, giving two work areas that are each longer than the entire X travel of the smallest FORTE 9. In that mode the machine behaves like two large verticals sharing one spindle.
On an axis this long the travelling magazine is essential. Its 60 places move with the column, and the double gripper has the next tool ready, for ca. 12 s chip to chip at any position. The 22 kW SK40 spindle at 14,000 rpm is standard; 37 kW with 185 Nm, 35 kW at 18,000 rpm and 50 kW with 217 Nm are listed alongside it. Feed force is 27,000 N. The machine weighs 26,500 kg (58,422 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 6,200 mm of X travel over a fixed 6,680 x 900 mm table
- Table load of 6,000 kg (13,228 lb) with 40 m/min feeds regardless of workpiece weight
- Pendulum operation with two 2,825 x 2,825 mm work areas
- 60-place magazine travels with the column, so tool changes take ca. 12 s anywhere on the axis
- Direct measuring systems and a positioning accuracy of A=6 µm/1,000 mm
Limitations
- 26,500 kg (58,422 lb) and a table almost seven metres long: floor space and foundation are major items
- Y travel of 900 mm limits the width of parts however long they are
- Positioning accuracy is quoted per 1,000 mm, not over the full 6,200 mm
- The 22 kW spindle is standard; the stronger units are options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 6,200 mm (244.1 in) and the fixed table's clamping area is 6,680 x 900 mm. Y travel is 900 mm and Z travel 1,005 mm. The table carries 6,000 kg (13,228 lb), so long parts can be machined in a single clamping.
02
Hedelius states a positioning accuracy of A=6 µm/1,000 mm to ISO 230-2 and fits direct measuring systems. The value is per 1,000 mm of travel. For a part that uses most of the 6,200 mm, ask for the accuracy protocol over the full axis.
03
2,825 x 2,825 mm according to the data sheet, two work areas of 2,825 mm each along X. With the partition in place one area is machined while the other is loaded, and the travelling magazine supplies tools to both.
04
Standard is a liquid-cooled spindle with 14,000 rpm and 22 kW in SK40. The data sheet also lists SK40 / BT40 with 185 Nm and 37 kW, HSK A63 at 18,000 rpm with 136 Nm and 35 kW, and HSK A63 at 15,000 rpm with 217 Nm and 50 kW. HSK A63 is an optional mount.
