How much does the Niigata HN80E-BAR cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Niigata HN80E-BAR that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Niigata HN80E-BAR adds a boring-mill quill to an 800 mm pallet horizontal machining center. Its φ130 bar spindle, the W axis, extends 555 mm (21.9 in) out of the head, so a bore deep inside a casting can be reached with a short, stiff tool instead of a long one. Niigata calls the concept a bar center.
The comparison the maker draws is with a cantilevered horizontal boring machine. There the spindle head hangs off one side of a column. Here the spindle sits in the centre of a double column, guided on both sides in Y, which makes the structure thermally symmetrical. The column traverses in Z with the guide centre, ball screw and spindle on one line. The machine is fully enclosed and has a two-pallet changer and an ATC, none of which a traditional boring mill offers as a matter of course.
Spindle figures are 3,500 min-1 and 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft) with BT50 tooling. A spindle core cooling system is standard, and Niigata states that it cuts thermal displacement to 1/4 of conventional systems.
X and Z travels are those of the HN80E, 1,530 mm and 1,020 mm, and Y is 1,100 mm (43.3 in). The pallet carries 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) and the part can be φ1,750 mm × 1,400 mm. Rapid rates differ by axis: 40 m/min in X, 25 m/min in Z, 20 m/min in Y and 5 m/min for the quill. Sixty-two tools are standard. As the smallest HN-BAR model it is also the quickest in X and Z.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- φ130 bar spindle with 555 mm (21.9 in) of W-axis stroke
- 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft) of spindle torque
- Spindle core cooling as standard, reducing thermal displacement to 1/4 of conventional systems
- Centre spindle in a double column with dual Y-axis guides
- Pallet changer, ATC and full enclosure on a boring-capable machine
Limitations
- Spindle speed is limited to 3,500 min-1
- Y travel is 1,100 mm, less than the 1,230 mm of the HN80E
- W-axis rapid is 5 m/min, so quill moves are slow compared with the linear axes
Best For
Frequently Asked Questions
01
A quill-type spindle of φ130 diameter that feeds out along the W axis by up to 555 mm. It lets the tool reach deep features while staying short. Maximum speed is 3,500 min-1, maximum torque 1,836 N·m, and the shank is BT50.
02
Niigata fits a spindle core cooling system as standard and states that it reduces thermal displacement to 1/4 of conventional systems. The double column with a central spindle is also described as thermally symmetrical.
03
X is 1,530 mm, Y is 1,100 mm, Z is 1,020 mm and W is 555 mm. The 800 mm × 800 mm pallet carries 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) evenly distributed, and the maximum workpiece is φ1,750 mm × 1,400 mm.
04
Both have an 800 mm pallet and a 5 m/min W axis. The HN80E-BAR is the box-way machine, listed at 3,500 min-1 and 1,836 N·m with rapids up to 40 m/min. The HPN800-BAR is listed at 8,000 min-1 and 1,202 N·m, with 60 m/min rapids and 1,220 mm of Z travel.
