How much does the Niigata N500 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Niigata N500 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Niigata N500 is the smallest of the N series: a horizontal machining center with a 500 mm × 500 mm pallet, a BBT40 spindle that runs to 15,000 min-1 and rapids of 60 m/min on all three linear axes. Travels are 730 mm (28.7 in) in X, 700 mm (27.6 in) in Y and 760 mm (29.9 in) in Z, and the largest workpiece is φ700 mm × 1,000 mm on a pallet rated for 500 kg (1,102 lb).
What sets the N series apart inside Niigata's range is the structure. Most of the maker's horizontals are column-traverse machines on box slideways. The N500 instead uses what Niigata calls BOX in BOX: a fixed column with a wide guide space, a light moving mass and roller guides on every axis. Niigata's argument is that less moving weight means less inertia, which is where the 60 m/min figure comes from, and that the fixed column keeps cutting stable even at the top of the Y stroke. The base is T-shaped and sits on 3-point leveling.
The spindle is the interesting part for a 40-taper machine. Niigata rates it at 303 N·m (223 lb-ft) and describes it as a #40 spindle with heavy cutting capability comparable to a #50. A BIG-PLUS spindle, oil-air bearing lubrication and a spindle cooling system synchronized to machine temperature are listed as standard equipment.
Tool changes are handled by a cam-driven, servo-motor ATC. Niigata gives 1.2 s for a 4 kg tool and 1.7 s for a 12 kg tool, and the chain magazine is listed as 60 / 126 tools. The pallet indexes in 0.001° steps, so the fourth axis can be positioned finely enough for contouring. Two side-discharge chip conveyors are offered: a hinge pan type, and a double decker type with drum filter, scraper and hinged pan.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 15,000 min-1 BBT40 spindle rated at 303 N·m (223 lb-ft), which Niigata compares with a #50 spindle for heavy cutting
- 60 m/min rapid traverse on X, Y and Z, with roller guides on all axes
- Cam-driven ATC: 1.2 s with a 4 kg tool and 1.7 s with a 12 kg tool
- 0.001° pallet indexing is in the specification table, not a bracketed option
- BIG-PLUS spindle, oil-air lubrication and spindle cooling are listed as standard equipment
Limitations
- Pallet load stops at 500 kg (1,102 lb); the N600 carries 800 kg on the same 500 mm × 500 mm pallet
- BBT40 tooling only: the table gives no 50-taper version of this size, so large face mills and long boring bars belong on the N600
- X travel of 730 mm limits fixture width, even though the swing is φ700 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table gives 730 mm in X (saddle left/right), 700 mm in Y (spindle up/down) and 760 mm in Z (table forward/backward). The pallet is 500 mm × 500 mm, the maximum workpiece is φ700 mm in swing by 1,000 mm high, and the pallet load is 500 kg (1,102 lb).
02
A BBT40 spindle with a maximum speed of 15,000 min-1 and a maximum torque of 303 N·m (223 lb-ft). Niigata lists a BIG-PLUS spindle, oil-air lubrication of the bearings and a spindle cooling system synchronized to machine temperature as standard equipment, and describes the cutting capability as comparable to a #50 spindle.
03
Niigata quotes ATC times by tool weight: 1.2 s with a 4 kg tool and 1.7 s with a 12 kg tool. The changer is cam-driven with a servo motor, and the magazine row of the table reads 60 / 126 tools, chain type.
04
Both use a 500 mm × 500 mm pallet and 60 m/min rapids, but they are different spindle classes. The N500 has a BBT40 spindle at 15,000 min-1 and 303 N·m and carries 500 kg. The N600 has a BBT50 (BIG-PLUS) spindle at 12,000 min-1 and 623 N·m, carries 800 kg and has longer travels of 800 mm, 750 mm and 850 mm.
