Overview

The Niigata HN130D-FC is the largest facing center in the maker's range, taking parts up to φ3,200 mm × 3,000 mm and 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) on a 1,320 mm × 1,320 mm pallet. Work of that size with turned features usually goes to a large vertical lathe and then to a boring mill. This machine is Niigata's proposal for doing both in one clamping.

Its spindle head has two working elements. The faceplate slide, the U axis, has 130 mm (5.1 in) of travel, or 230 mm (9.1 in) in the optional twin U spindle version, and carries an NT50 short-taper tool for facing, grooving and taper cuts. The W axis is a φ130 spindle with a BT50 shank that feeds out 300 mm for boring, milling and drilling at up to 2,500 min-1. Torque is 659.5 N·m (486 lb-ft) from an AC 26/22 kW motor.

X travel is 3,050 mm (120.1 in), Y is 1,850 mm (72.8 in) and Z is 1,420 mm (55.9 in). Rapid traverse is 18 m/min in X and 12 m/min in Y and Z, the same rates as the plain HN130D, with 5 m/min on W and U.

One detail separates it from the two smaller FC models. The pallet's minimum indexing angle is 0.001° in the standard specification, with no coarser table listed, so every HN130D-FC has a continuously positioning B axis. Niigata lists no heavier pallet option for this model. The magazine holds 62 tools and can be supplied with 88, 128, 175 or 255.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Facing, grooving and boring on stationary parts up to φ3,200 mm × 3,000 mm
  • 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) pallet load
  • 0.001° pallet indexing as the standard specification
  • U axis of 130 mm (5.1 in), or 230 mm (9.1 in) as an option, plus a 300 mm W axis
  • 3,050 mm (120.1 in) of X travel for long workpieces

Limitations

  • Y travel of 1,850 mm is less than the 2,200 mm of the HN130D
  • Spindle is limited to 2,500 min-1 and 659.5 N·m
  • Rapids of 18 m/min in X and 12 m/min in Y and Z
  • No 10,000 kg option is listed, unlike the HN130D

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big a part can the Niigata HN130D-FC machine?

Up to φ3,200 mm in swing diameter and 3,000 mm in height. The pallet is 1,320 mm × 1,320 mm and its maximum evenly distributed load is 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).

02 What are the U and W axes on the HN130D-FC?

The U axis is the faceplate slide that moves a turning tool radially; it travels 130 mm, or 230 mm as an option. The W axis is the φ130 feed-out spindle for boring and milling, with 300 mm of travel. Both rapid at 5 m/min.

03 Does the HN130D-FC have a full NC rotary table?

Yes. The table gives a minimum pallet indexing angle of 0.001° for the HN130D-FC, without the 1° standard figure shown for the HN80E-FC. Angled ports and features can therefore be positioned at any angle.

04 What spindle power does the HN130D-FC have?

The main motor is AC 26/22 kW, stated on a 30 minutes/continuous rating. Maximum W-axis spindle speed is 2,500 min-1 and maximum torque is 659.5 N·m (486 lb-ft).
