Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zimmermann FZH32 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Aluminum structures and stringers for aircraft are long and narrow, and the Zimmermann FZH32 is laid out for exactly that. It is a horizontal machining center in a thermo-symmetrical box-in-box design with a low, long work zone: Y travel is 950 mm (37.4 in) or 1,250 mm (49.2 in), Z is 600 mm (23.6 in), and X starts at 2,800-3,400 mm and extends in steps of 500 mm up to 6,400 mm.
The spindle on the data sheet sits in a C3E head and is a different class from the one on the FZH27: 25 kW at S1 and 35 kW at S6, with 60 Nm and 83 Nm, on an HSK-A63 holder with hydraulic tool release. Top speed is given as 15,000 U/min, optionally 18,000 U/min, which is the sheet's notation for revolutions per minute, and constant power is available from 4,000 U/min. Five times the S1 torque of the FZH27 spindle is what turns a trimming machine into one that can pocket aluminum.
The A axis of the head swings from +96° to -1°, in effect to one side only, and the C axis covers ±186°. Rotary torque in control is 1,180 Nm on A and 1,310 Nm on C. Positioning accuracy of the rotary axes is listed as 20 and 10 arc seconds for A and C, repeatability as 10 and 8.
The linear axes are quick where it counts: 70 m/min in X, 60 m/min in Z and 40 m/min in Y, with 3 m/s² of acceleration. The machine occupies 5,300 mm by 5,100 mm and stands 3,000 mm high without peripherals; other length and height variants are possible. Automation, fixture holders, a chip conveyor and a tool changer are optional equipment. The page names the S2 and C3 heads as suitable and Heidenhain TNC7 or Siemens SINUMERIK ONE as controls.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 25 kW (S1) spindle with 60 Nm, 83 Nm at S6, on HSK-A63
- X feed rate of 70 m/min and Z feed rate of 60 m/min
- Thermo-symmetrical box-in-box design with a minimal footprint, per Zimmermann
- X travel extendable in steps of 500 mm up to 6,400 mm
- Optional 18,000 U/min spindle speed
Limitations
- Y travel is 950 mm (37.4 in) or 1,250 mm (49.2 in) and Z is 600 mm (23.6 in), which restricts the machine to low, long parts
- The A axis of the C3E head swivels +96°/-1° only
- Standard spindle speed is 15,000 U/min, well below the 24,000 U/min of the FZH27
- Y-axis feed rate is 40 m/min

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Zimmermann says it is specifically designed for machining aluminum structures and stringers in the aerospace industry, for milling, trimming and drilling, and that the horizontal machining center is also used in the automotive industry. The travels match that brief: long in X, 950 mm or 1,250 mm in Y and 600 mm in Z.
02
The table gives 2,800-3,400 mm, in steps of 500 mm up to 6,400 mm, and longer working ranges in X also appear under optional equipment. The data sheet adds that other length and height variants are possible.
03
The data sheet shows a 25 kW milling spindle in the C3E head: 25 kW at S1 and 35 kW at S6, 60 Nm at S1 and 83 Nm at S6, HSK-A63, spring clamping with hydraulic release and grease lubrication. Speed is 15,000 U/min with 18,000 U/min as an option, and constant power runs from 4,000 to 15,000 U/min. Other heads and spindles are available on request.
04
X is listed at 70 m/min, Y at 40 m/min and Z at 60 m/min, with 3 m/s² of acceleration on all three. The rotary axes of the C3E head move at 108°/s and 84°/s. The fast Z axis helps in drilling and pocketing cycles, where the tool retracts and plunges constantly.
05
5,300 mm in length, 5,100 mm in width and 3,000 mm in height without peripherals, according to the data sheet. Zimmermann attributes the small footprint to the compact thermo-symmetrical box-in-box design.
