Overview

The Niigata HN130D-BAR is where the maker's machining centers overlap most directly with floor-type boring mills. It handles a workpiece of φ3,200 mm × 3,000 mm weighing 8,000 kg (17,637 lb), and its φ130 bar spindle feeds out 555 mm (21.9 in). Yet it remains a pallet machine with a 1,320 mm × 1,320 mm table, an automatic tool changer and a full cover.

That last point is part of Niigata's case for the HN-BAR series. On an open boring mill, coolant and chips go everywhere and the operator works beside the cut. The full cover keeps both inside. The pallet arrangement means an eight-tonne part can be loaded and clocked away from the spindle.

Axis travels are 3,050 mm (120.1 in) in X, 2,050 mm (80.7 in) in Y and 1,420 mm (55.9 in) in Z, with W adding its 555 mm in the Z direction. Traverse is unhurried: 18 m/min in X, 12 m/min in Y and Z, and 5 m/min in W. The pallet indexes at 0.001° as the standard specification on this model, so opposing bores can be aligned by rotating the part with fine angular correction.

The spindle runs to 3,500 min-1 and produces 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft), with BT50 tooling and standard core cooling. The head rides in the centre of a double column on twin Y-axis guides. For tooling, 62 pockets are standard; expandable chain magazines up to 255 tools and matrix magazines up to 230 tools are options. Niigata lists no heavier pallet option for this model.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • φ3,200 mm × 3,000 mm workpiece capacity with a 555 mm (21.9 in) boring quill
  • 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) pallet load
  • 0.001° pallet indexing in the standard specification
  • Full cover, ATC and pallet handling on a boring-mill-sized machine
  • 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft) spindle with core cooling

Limitations

  • Rapids of 18 m/min in X and 12 m/min in Y and Z
  • Y travel of 2,050 mm is less than the 2,200 mm of the HN130D
  • No option above 8,000 kg is shown; the HN1600-S BAR lists 10,000 kg
  • Spindle speed stops at 3,500 min-1

Best For

Large machine bases, platens and frames with deep precision bores Heavy castings up to 8,000 kg bored from several sides Work moving off an open floor-type boring mill into an enclosed machine Opposed bores aligned by indexing the pallet at 0.001°

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large a workpiece can the Niigata HN130D-BAR take?

The maximum is φ3,200 mm in swing diameter by 3,000 mm in height on a 1,320 mm × 1,320 mm pallet. The evenly distributed load limit is 8,000 kg (17,637 lb).

02 What are the axis travels of the HN130D-BAR?

X is 3,050 mm, Y is 2,050 mm and Z is 1,420 mm. The W axis, the quill of the bar spindle, adds 555 mm. Rapid rates are 18 m/min for X, 12 m/min for Y and Z, and 5 m/min for W.

03 What spindle does the HN130D-BAR have?

A bar spindle with a W-axis diameter of φ130, a BT50 shank, a top speed of 3,500 min-1 and a maximum torque of 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft). Niigata fits spindle core cooling as standard on the HN-BAR series.

04 How does the HN130D-BAR compare with the HN1600-S BAR?

They share travels, workpiece size and spindle ratings. The HN1600-S BAR has a 1,600 mm × 1,320 mm pallet, 30 m/min rapids from its hybrid guides and a 10,000 kg load option. The HN130D-BAR has a 1,320 mm × 1,320 mm pallet and sliding guides.
