Overview

The Nicolas Correa NORMA L puts the head of the NORMA bed mill on a travelling column. Y and Z match the bed-type NORMA, 1,250 / 1,500 mm and 1,500 / 2,000 mm, but X is no longer a moving table: the column travels 4,000 / 5,500 / 7,000 / 8,500 / 10,000 mm past a fixed one.

That changes what the machine is good at. On a bed mill the table carries the part, so part weight is part of the axis load. Here the part stays put, and the long fixed table can be split into two work zones; a pendular working system is on the options list for exactly that, letting the operator load one end while the spindle cuts at the other.

It is the light end of the maker's travelling column range. The power row reads 24 / 33 / 30 kW and the torque row 840 / 990 / 620 Nm, on an ISO-50 Big Plus or HSK-100 taper, and a gearbox is part of the standard equipment. Feeds are 30 m/min in X, Y and Z. The FENIX is the step up when more length is needed, with X listed to 25,500 mm.

The ram runs on the L-shaped guide system with mechanical droop correction by pulling bars, and the X-axis features 3 LM guideways. An automatic universal head, a perimeter fence and a Heidenhain or Siemens control come as standard. Tool changers for 30, 40 and 60 tools, rotary tables, full guarding and an operator cabinet are extras.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Fixed table with a travelling column: X travel of 4,000 / 5,500 / 7,000 / 8,500 / 10,000 mm
  • Pendular working system available, so one zone can be loaded while the other is machined
  • X-axis features 3 LM guideways; the ram uses the L-shaped guide system
  • 30 m/min feed on all three linear axes
  • Gearbox, automatic universal head and perimeter fence are standard equipment

Limitations

  • Spindle power tops out at 33 kW and torque at 990 Nm, below the larger travelling column models
  • Y travel is 1,250 / 1,500 mm and Z 1,500 / 2,000 mm, the same as the bed-type NORMA
  • Tool changer, rotary tables and full guarding are optional equipment
  • The pendular working system is an option, not part of the base machine
06

Best For

Long, moderately heavy parts up to 10,000 mm of X travel Pendulum machining of two setups on one table Shops moving up from a bed mill that need more length, not more height Mixed roughing and finishing with the automatic universal head

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the NORMA L and the NORMA?

The NORMA is a bed-type machine with a moving table. The NORMA L is a travelling column machine: the table is fixed and the column moves along X, with travels of 4,000 / 5,500 / 7,000 / 8,500 / 10,000 mm. Cross and vertical travel are the same on both, 1,250 / 1,500 mm and 1,500 / 2,000 mm.

02 Can the NORMA L work in pendulum mode?

Yes, as an option. Nicolas Correa lists a pendular working system among the optional equipment, together with rotary tables, integrated rotary tables, an operator cabinet and full guarding. A perimeter fence is part of the standard machine.

03 How much spindle power does the NORMA L have?

The table lists maximum power of 24 / 33 / 30 kW and maximum torque of 840 / 990 / 620 Nm, with an ISO-50 Big Plus or HSK-100 taper. A gearbox is listed under standard equipment. Which figure applies depends on the head and spindle chosen.

04 How fast do the axes of the NORMA L move?

Maximum feed is 30 m/min in X, Y and Z. All three axes run on linear guides, and linear scales in all axes are standard equipment, so positioning does not rely on the drive encoders alone.
