How much does the SHW PowerSpeed 4000 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SHW PowerSpeed 4000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Up to 75 kW and up to 40,000 mm/min: those are the figures SHW itself picks out for the PowerSpeed 4000, the larger of its two numbered PowerSpeed travelling column machines. The brochure table puts the maximum travels at 40,000 mm (1,574.8 in) in X, 4,100 mm (161.4 in) in Y, the vertical axis, and 1,600 mm (63.0 in) in Z, the horizontal cross axis.
On a machine of this size, speed is mostly a question of acceleration, and the brochure quotes 3.5 m/s². That is well above the 2 m/s² of the UniForce 4000, which has identical maximum travels. So the split within SHW's range is clear. The UniForce 4000 is listed with up to 100 kW (134.1 hp) at up to 5,000 rpm for heavy cuts. The PowerSpeed 4000 pairs up to 75/70 kW (100.6/93.9 hp) with up to 8,000/24,000 rpm in its main drive/motor spindle row.
The base head is the universal milling head in orthogonal design, 180° on A and 360° on C as standard. Fork, horizontal, angle and special heads are options. Tool holders are SK 50 BIG-PLUS or HSK 100 A DIN 69893.
SHW lists five versions: milling machine, turn-mill machine, head-changing machine, double-column machine and pallet-changing machine. A vertical axis of 4,100 mm (161.4 in) takes the machine into large frames and housings, where the workpiece handling chosen from the options list, for instance a rotary table with transverse axis, decides how many sides can be reached in one setup. Controls are Heidenhain or Siemens.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The maximum travels are the same: 40,000 mm (1,574.8 in), 4,100 mm (161.4 in) and 1,600 mm (63.0 in). The PowerSpeed 4000 is the faster machine, with 3.5 m/s² acceleration, up to 40,000 mm/min (1,575 ipm) and spindle speeds up to 8,000/24,000 rpm. The UniForce 4000 is listed with up to 100 kW (134.1 hp), up to 5,000 rpm, up to 36,000 mm/min (1,417 ipm) and 2 m/s².
02
The PowerSpeed 2000 is listed with maximum travels of 2,600 mm (102.4 in) in Y and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in Z; the PowerSpeed 4000 goes to 4,100 mm (161.4 in) and 1,600 mm (63.0 in). Maximum X is 40,000 mm (1,574.8 in) here, against 30,000 mm (1,181.1 in) on the PowerSpeed 2000.
03
The brochure prints one row for main drive/motor spindle: up to 75/70 kW (100.6/93.9 hp) and up to 8,000/24,000 rpm. SHW's product page speaks of an output of up to 75 kW. Tool holders are SK 50 BIG-PLUS or HSK 100 A DIN 69893, and no torque value is given.
04
Five are listed: milling machine, turn-mill machine, head-changing machine, double-column machine and pallet-changing machine. Options cover clamping plates, rotary tables, a rotary table with transverse axis, turntables, a pallet changer, and tool handling from a tool changer to a tool pick-up.
05
SHW lists Heidenhain and Siemens controls. The brochure and the product page name the makers only, not a control model, so the exact control is agreed in the quotation.
