Overview

The Nicolas Correa XPERTA is the smallest bed-type mill in the range and the only one whose table gives fixed figures for each size. There are four: X travel of 2,000 / 2,500 / 3,500 / 4,500 mm, each with 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Y and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z.

Because the sizes are fixed, the numbers can be read straight across. Table surfaces are 2,300 x 1,000, 2,800 x 1,000, 3,800 x 1,000 and 4,800 x 1,000 mm, table loads 4,500 / 6,500 / 8,500 / 10,500 kg, and machine weights 15,200 / 16,400 / 18,600 / 22,000 kg. Every table is a little longer than its X travel, and all share one width. Choosing a size is a question of part length and weight only.

One spindle is listed: an ISO-50 taper with 24 kW (32.2 hp) and 840 Nm (620 lb-ft), at 4,000 / 6,000 rpm. That is a roughing-capable 50-taper spindle without a high-speed alternative. Shops that need 10,000 rpm should look at the NORMA, which lists 4,000 / 6,000 / 10,000 rpm and more Y and Z as well.

Axis feed is 25 m/min on linear guides. The lateral ram uses the same L-shaped guide system and pulling-bar droop correction as the larger machines. Standard equipment covers the automatic universal head, a Heidenhain or Siemens control, linear scales in all axes and a perimeter fence. Tool changers for 30, 40 and 60 tools, rotary tables and integral guarding cost extra.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Four fixed sizes with stated loads: 4,500 / 6,500 / 8,500 / 10,500 kg on tables from 2,300 x 1,000 to 4,800 x 1,000 mm
  • ISO-50 spindle with 24 kW (32.2 hp) and 840 Nm (620 lb-ft)
  • Machine weight of 15,200 to 22,000 kg, published per size for foundation planning
  • L-shaped ram guide system with mechanical ram droop correction
  • Automatic universal head and linear scales in all axes as standard

Limitations

  • Y and Z travel are 1,000 mm (39.4 in) each, with no larger option on this model
  • Top spindle speed is 6,000 rpm; the NORMA lists a 10,000 rpm option
  • Feed is 25 m/min, against 30 m/min on the NORMA
  • Tool changer, rotary tables and integral guarding are optional equipment

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What sizes does the Correa XPERTA come in?

Four, named 20, 25, 35 and 45 in the maker's table. X travel is 2,000 / 2,500 / 3,500 / 4,500 mm, with table surfaces of 2,300 x 1,000, 2,800 x 1,000, 3,800 x 1,000 and 4,800 x 1,000 mm. Y and Z are 1,000 mm (39.4 in) on every size.

02 How much weight can the XPERTA table carry?

Maximum load on the table is 4,500 / 6,500 / 8,500 / 10,500 kg, rising with table length. The machine itself weighs 15,200 / 16,400 / 18,600 / 22,000 kg, so add the two figures for the size chosen when the foundation is planned.

03 What spindle does the XPERTA have?

A single ISO-50 spindle is listed, with programmable speeds of 4,000 / 6,000 rpm, 24 kW (32.2 hp) maximum power and 840 Nm (620 lb-ft) maximum torque. The automatic universal head is standard, and other heads are available as options.

04 How does the XPERTA compare with the NORMA?

Both are bed-type machines with a lateral ram. The XPERTA has 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Y and Z and feeds at 25 m/min. The NORMA lists Y of 1,250 / 1,500 mm, Z of 1,500 / 2,000 mm and 30 m/min feeds, so it suits taller and deeper parts.
