Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA20XII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA20XII packs 29 tools around a 20 mm (0.8 in) bar. It is an eight-axis Swiss-type automatic lathe with 270 mm (10.6 in) of turning length, the longest stroke Nexturn lists at this bar size, and it is the model on which the brochure shows the optional B-axis tool unit.
Most of the extra tooling is on the main side. The table gives eight OD tools, eight cross positions of which four are modular, and three ID tools. Nexturn calls the arrangement a ㄷ shape layout and says its purpose is to cut non-cutting time: with tools on three sides of the bar, the next tool is never far away. The sub spindle side has two front-end face tools, fixed as standard with live ones optional, and a back-end station of up to eight tools on the Y2 axis.
The B-axis unit takes the place of the four modular cross spindles. In the brochure it carries three front live tools in ER16 collets and three back live tools in ER11. Step indexing is the standard control mode, and continuous B-axis control is a further option. Angled holes and angled flats can then be cut with the same tools that do the square ones.
None of this comes with large motors. The main spindle is 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp), the sub spindle 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp) and the cross unit 1.0 kW (1.3 hp), and both spindles are listed at 8,000 rpm. The SA20PII offers 10,000 rpm and a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) cross unit if speed or cross-drilling force matters more than tool count. The X machine weighs 3,600 kg (7,937 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 29 tools on a 20 mm (0.8 in) machine, against 23 on the SA20PII and 27 on the SA20PYII
- 270 mm (10.6 in) of turning length
- Optional B-axis unit with three front and three back live tools, step indexing as standard
- Eight cross positions, four of them modular, plus a Y2 axis for the back-end station
- Oil cooling system on the main spindle and pneumatic spindle brakes
Limitations
- Cross drill and mill motor is 1.0 kW (1.3 hp), with cross drilling limited to 8 mm (0.3 in) and M6
- 8,000 rpm main spindle, where the SA20PII reaches 10,000 rpm
- The eight-tool back unit, live front-end tools and continuous B-axis control are all options
- At 2,330 × 1,350 × 1,800 mm (91.7 × 53.1 × 70.9 in) it is a larger machine than the P type for the same bar

Frequently Asked Questions
01
As an option. The brochure shows continuous B-axis swiveling tools on the SA20XII, with three front live tools (ER16) and three back live tools (ER11). Step indexing of the B axis is standard with the unit, and continuous control for simultaneous four-axis work (C1, Z1, B1, X1) is a separate option. The B-axis unit replaces the four modular cross spindles.
02
Eight OD tools, eight cross tools (four fixed-position spindles and four modular) and three ID tools on the main side, two front-end face tools for the sub spindle, and eight back-end face tools listed as Live 4, Fixed 4. The standard back tool unit is Live 2, Fixed 2, so the full count assumes the optional unit.
03
Both have eight axes with Y2 and a FANUC 0iTF. The SA20XII has 29 tools and 270 mm (10.6 in) of turning length. The SA20PYII has 27 tools, 210 mm (8.3 in), a 10,000 rpm main spindle and the guide bush / non guide bush conversion, in a machine that weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb).
04
Main spindle 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) and sub spindle 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp), each with a top speed of 8,000 rpm and Cs control. Cross spindles reach 6,000 rpm on a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor, and the back-end tool station is rated 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) at up to 5,000 rpm.
