How much does the Nexturn SA20PII cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA20PII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA20PII is the 20 mm (0.8 in) entry to the P line of Swiss-type automatic lathes, and the only bar size in that line whose main spindle runs to 10,000 rpm. Turning length is 250 mm (9.8 in), the tool count is 23 and the control is a seven-axis FANUC 0iTF.
Set beside the SA20B, which takes the same bar, the P machine is the heavier build. It turns 250 mm per chucking where the SA20B turns 210 mm (8.3 in), and it weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb) against the SA20B's 2,700 kg (5,952 lb). Its cross drill and mill unit has a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) motor, more than double the 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) unit on the SA20B, and cross drilling rises to 10 mm (0.4 in) with M8 tapping. The spindle motors are unchanged at 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) main and 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp) sub.
The speed split is unusual. The main spindle is listed at 10,000 rpm but the sub spindle at 8,000 rpm, so synchronised pick-off happens within the lower figure. The bigger P machines are 8,000 rpm on both.
Read the tool count with the option list in hand. The table's 23 tools include five Y-axis ID positions and a back-end group of five (Live 2, Fixed 3), yet the brochure puts the Y-axis tool unit under machine options and names a four-fixed-tool back unit as the PII standard. The 4 spindle cross drill unit and the synchronous rotary guide bush holder unit are standard. For a second Y axis and the guide bush / non guide bush conversion, Nexturn's answer is the SA20PYII.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10,000 rpm main spindle, the fastest in the P line; the SA26PII and larger are listed at 8,000 rpm
- 250 mm (9.8 in) of turning length, against 210 mm (8.3 in) on the SA20B
- 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) cross drill and mill motor with cross drilling to 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8
- Three front-end face tools for the sub spindle, two of them live
- Synchronous rotary guide bush holder unit and 4 spindle cross drill unit are standard
Limitations
- The sub spindle is limited to 8,000 rpm, below the main spindle's 10,000 rpm
- Main spindle motor is 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp), well under the 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) of the SA26PII
- Seven axes with no Y2; the SA20PYII adds it
- The Y-axis tool unit and the live back tool unit are listed as machine options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
For stroke, speed and cross-tool power. The SA20PII turns 250 mm (9.8 in) per chucking, runs its main spindle to 10,000 rpm and drives cross tools with 2.2 kW (3.0 hp). The SA20B turns 210 mm (8.3 in), tops out at 8,000 rpm and has a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) cross unit, but it is lighter at 2,700 kg (5,952 lb).
02
The SA20PII has seven axes and 23 tools. The SA20PYII has eight axes, with Y2 added to the axis designation, lists 27 tools and is the type Nexturn describes as exchangeable between guide bush and non guide bush operation. Turning length on the SA20PYII is 210 mm (8.3 in), shorter than the 250 mm (9.8 in) of the SA20PII.
03
No, check the quotation. The specification table counts five Y-axis ID tools and five back-end face tools (Live 2, Fixed 3). In the same brochure the Y-axis tool unit is a machine option and the PII standard back unit is four fixed tools, with a Live 2, Fixed 2 unit offered as an option.
04
2,100 × 1,165 × 1,660 mm (82.7 × 45.9 × 65.4 in) in length, width and height, with a net weight of 3,300 kg (7,275 lb) and a 280 L coolant tank. All eight machines of the P and PY types share that envelope; weight is what changes with bar size.
