How much does the Nexturn SA45XIII cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA45XIII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA45XIII is the heavy member of the three-path X-III type: 45 mm (1.8 in) bar, an 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) main spindle and a turning length of 120 mm (4.7 in). It runs eleven axes on a FANUC 31i-B and both spindles are limited to 6,000 rpm.
Its tooling is laid out differently from the SA32XIII and SA38XIII, and the table shows where. Channel 1 has two OD tools and four cross live tools. Channel 2 has three OD tools, no cross tools at all, and seven ID tools, four fixed and three live. With the cross column of channel 2 empty, simultaneous cross machining from both slides is not what this model is for. Its second slide is there for turning and for work on the bar's end face. Eight back-end tools serve the sub spindle and no front-end face tools are listed.
The frame is scaled up to suit. Shanks are □20 × 125 mm (0.8 × 4.9 in) on both channels, on-centre drilling goes to 16 mm (0.6 in) and M12, and cross and back-end drilling to 13 mm (0.5 in) and M10. Nexturn fits a hydraulic brake unit in place of the pneumatic one used on the SA32XIII and SA38XIII. The sub spindle is 2.2 / 5.5 kW (3.0 / 7.4 hp).
Two figures deserve a second look before ordering. The largest cross disc mill is 40 mm (1.6 in), smaller than the bar, so a slot cannot be milled across the full diameter in one pass. And power consumption is 30 kVA, half as much again as the 20 kVA of the SA38XIII. The machine weighs 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) and holds 300 L of coolant.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) main spindle with three-path control
- 32 m/min rapid traverse, where the two-path SA45XII is listed at 24 m/min
- Seven ID tool positions on channel 2, three of them live
- Hydraulic brake unit as standard
- □20 × 125 mm (0.8 × 4.9 in) tool shanks on both gang slides
Limitations
- Turning length is 120 mm (4.7 in), against 270 mm (10.6 in) on the SA38XIII
- Channel 2 has no cross tools, so only four cross live tools are available at the main spindle
- Cross disc mill is limited to 40 mm (1.6 in), less than the 45 mm bar
- Needs a 30 kVA supply, against 20 kVA for the SA38XIII
- No front-end face tools are listed for the sub spindle
