How much does the Nexturn SA20B cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA20B that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA20B is a 20 mm (0.8 in) Swiss-type automatic lathe with 210 mm (8.3 in) of turning length, twin 8,000 rpm spindles and 22 tools, the highest tool count in the three-model B line. A FANUC 0iTF runs its seven axes.
Where do the 22 tools sit? Six are OD turning tools on □12 × 120 mm (0.5 × 4.7 in) shanks, four are cross live tools and five are ID tools on the Y-axis unit. The sub spindle side has three front-end face tools, listed as Live 2, Fixed 1, plus four back-end positions. That front-end group is the detail to notice: the SA12B has none and the SA32B has two, so the SA20B is the B machine with the most to offer for work on the cut-off side of the part.
The spindle motors are modest. Nexturn lists 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) for the main spindle and 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp) for the sub spindle, with a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor on the cross drill and mill unit. Drilling on centre goes to 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8; cross and back-end drilling both stop at 8 mm (0.3 in) and M6. A cross disc mill can be up to 32 mm (1.3 in) in diameter.
One thing to settle with the supplier is the back tool unit. The standard list reads Back Tool Unit (Fixed 4), and the Live 2, Fixed 2 unit that the specification table describes appears under machine options. The same goes for the bar feeder, chip conveyor and long part discharging unit. The machine itself weighs 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) and holds 200 L of coolant.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 22 tools, the most in the B line: the SA12B lists 18 and the SA32B lists 20
- Three front-end face tools for the sub spindle (Live 2, Fixed 1) in addition to four back-end positions
- Y-axis tool unit with five ID tool positions is on the standard machine list
- Main and sub spindle both run to 8,000 rpm with Cs control on each
- Sub spindle chucks the full 20 mm (0.8 in) bar diameter
Limitations
- Main spindle motor is 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp); the SA32B on the same turning length has 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp)
- Cross and back-end drilling are limited to 8 mm (0.3 in) and M6 threads
- The live back tool unit, bar feeder and chip conveyor are all on the option list
- Spindles top out at 8,000 rpm where the SA12B reaches 10,000 rpm, which matters on the thinnest bar

Frequently Asked Questions
01
22 in total. The table splits them into six OD tools, four cross live tools and five Y-axis ID tools on the main side, three front-end face tools for the sub spindle (two live, one fixed) and four back-end face tools. Turning tools use □12 × 120 mm (0.5 × 4.7 in) shanks and the revolving tools use ER16 collets.
02
On the main spindle centre line, 10 mm (0.4 in) drilling and M8 tapping. Cross drilling and back-end face drilling are both listed at 8 mm (0.3 in) with M6 tapping. Cross tools run at up to 6,000 rpm, and the largest cross disc mill is 32 mm (1.3 in).
03
Not as standard, going by the brochure's lists. The standard machine has a back tool unit with four fixed tools. A back tool unit with two live and two fixed tools is a machine option, and that is the arrangement the specification table shows, driven by a 0.75 kW (1.0 hp) motor.
04
The machine measures 2,030 × 1,160 × 1,630 mm (79.9 × 45.7 × 64.2 in) and weighs 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) net. A bar feeder is not included in those figures. Only the barfeeder interface is standard, so add the feeder's length and its service clearance to the layout.
