Modig HHV3 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Modig HHV3 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Modig or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Three rotary tables and a choice of 4- or 5-axis motion define the Modig HHV3, a horizontal single-spindle machining center for bar and extrusion. Standard stock is bar up to 127 x 127 mm (5 x 5 in) and extrusion up to 150 x 250 mm (6 x 10 in), with larger options available for both.

Each rotary axis is listed at +/- 190 degrees: A1 and A2 together, and A3 on its own line. Alongside them the table lists two U axes, U1 and U2, with 900 mm (35 in) of travel. X travel is 1,500 mm (60 in) and Z travel is 260 mm (10 in). The table does not say how the three tables and two U axes divide the work, so ask Modig to show the clamping sequence for your profile before judging what the third table buys you.

Workholding is by rotary chucks that turn at 0-60 rpm. Jaws are quick-change at 1 min per rotary chuck, so changeover time grows with the number of chucks that have to be re-jawed.

The cutting side is the same as on the HHV2: both list a 0-30,000 rpm spindle with 42 kW (56 hp) S1, HSK-A63 and 12 or 24 tools. On the HHV3 a tool change takes 8 sec chip to chip, and the X, Y, Z and U axes feed at 0-60 m/min (0-2,400 in/min) with 10 m/s² (32 ft/s²) of acceleration. Materials are aluminum and composite. There is no torque figure, and although the feed row names a Y axis, the table gives no Y travel.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Three rotary tables, with A1, A2 and A3 each listed at +/- 190 degrees
  • Offered in 4-axis or 5-axis form on the same 1,500 mm (60 in) of X travel
  • Two U axes, U1 and U2, with 900 mm (35 in) of travel, fed at 0-60 m/min (0-2,400 in/min) like X, Y and Z
  • 0-30,000 rpm, 42 kW (56 hp) S1 spindle on HSK-A63 with an 8 sec chip-to-chip tool change
  • Rotary chucks turn at 0-60 rpm and take a jaw change in 1 min per rotary chuck

Limitations

  • Tool storage tops out at 24, the same 12 or 24 choice as the HHV2 despite the extra axes
  • Z travel of 260 mm (10 in) restricts the machine to bar and extrusion sections
  • No Y travel, part length or part weight is listed
  • Aluminum and composite only, with no torque figure for the 42 kW (56 hp) S1 spindle
  • Standard sections stop at 127 x 127 mm (5 x 5 in) bar and 150 x 250 mm (6 x 10 in) extrusion; anything bigger is an option
06

Best For

Aluminum extrusion work that calls for three rotary tables and 4- or 5-axis motion Bar up to 127 x 127 mm (5 x 5 in) and extrusion up to 150 x 250 mm (6 x 10 in) High-speed cutting of aluminum and composite profiles at up to 30,000 rpm Profile families changed over with quick-change jaws at 1 min per rotary chuck

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How many axes does the Modig HHV3 have?

Modig lists it as a 4- or 5-axis machine with one spindle and three rotary tables. The linear travels given are 1,500 mm (60 in) in X, 260 mm (10 in) in Z and 900 mm (35 in) on the U1 and U2 axes. The rotary axes A1, A2 and A3 are each listed at +/- 190 degrees. The feed row also names a Y axis, but no Y travel is given.

02 What does the HHV3 add over the HHV2?

Not spindle capacity: the HHV2 lists the same 0-30,000 rpm, 42 kW (56 hp) S1 spindle, the same HSK-A63 interface and the same 12 or 24 tools. What the HHV3 table shows is three rotary tables, a third rotary axis A3 at +/- 190 degrees, U1 and U2 axes with 900 mm (35 in) of travel, and a 5-axis option. Check the HHV2 page for its own table and axis rows.

03 What size of profile fits the HHV3?

Bar up to 127 x 127 mm (5 x 5 in) and extrusion up to 150 x 250 mm (6 x 10 in) in cross section, with larger options available. The table gives no maximum length or weight for the stock, so those limits need to be confirmed for long profiles.

04 How long does a changeover take on the HHV3?

Jaws are quick-change at 1 min per rotary chuck, and a tool change is 8 sec chip to chip. The magazine holds 12 or 24 tools, so a new profile that needs different cutters may also mean reloading tools.

05 Which materials is the HHV3 built for?

Aluminum and composite. The spindle runs 0-30,000 rpm with 42 kW (56 hp) S1 on HSK-A63 and has no listed torque, and Z travel is 260 mm (10 in). Those figures describe a fast machine for light-alloy sections, not one for steel bar.
