Modig FlexiMill — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Modig FlexiMill that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Modig or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Modig FlexiMill is a horizontal moving-column machining center with up to 6 axes, listed for aluminum and composite. X travel runs from 2,000 to 10,000 mm (80 to 395 in), Y is 1,400 mm (55 in), and Z comes in two versions: 2,200 mm (90 in) as option 1 or 1,200 mm (47 in) as option 2.

With a horizontal spindle, Z is the depth the tool reaches into the part, and the listed maximum part size makes that plain: 10,000 x 2,200 x 1,400 mm (395 x 90 x 55 in), length by depth by height. The depth figure matches the longer Z option, so the 1,200 mm (47 in) version should be expected to take a shallower part; the table does not give a second envelope. An optional U-axis adds 1,260 mm (50 in) of travel. The table does not say what the U-axis moves, so its purpose is a question for Modig.

The spindle is listed at up to 30,000 rpm and up to 125 kW (168 hp) S1 on an HSK-63A interface. No torque figure is given and the only materials named are aluminum and composite, which fits a fast, powerful spindle with a single interface size. The rotary axes cover +/- 110 degrees in A and +/- 190 degrees in C at 360 degrees/sec. C is limited, not continuous, so a toolpath that keeps turning one way needs an unwind move.

Tool storage goes up to 300, and a change takes 15 sec chip to chip. The linear axes, U included, feed at 0-60 m/min (0-2,400 in/min) with 5 m/s² (16 ft/s²) of acceleration. The MHM is listed with up to 150 kW (201 hp) S1, three interface choices and 120 tools; the FlexiMill has up to 125 kW (168 hp) S1, HSK-63A only and room for up to 300 tools.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • X travel from 2,000 to 10,000 mm (80 to 395 in), for parts up to 10,000 mm (395 in) long
  • Z travel of 2,200 mm (90 in) with option 1, in line with the listed part depth of 2,200 mm (90 in)
  • Spindle of up to 30,000 rpm and up to 125 kW (168 hp) S1 for aluminum and composite
  • Storage for up to 300 tools, so long tool lists stay in the machine
  • Optional U-axis with 1,260 mm (50 in) of travel, fed at the same 0-60 m/min (0-2,400 in/min) as X, Y and Z
  • A and C axes move at 360 degrees/sec

Limitations

  • Only aluminum and composite are listed as materials, and no spindle torque is given
  • HSK-63A is the only interface listed, so there is no larger taper for heavy cutters
  • C-axis range is +/- 190 degrees, not continuous rotation
  • Tool change takes 15 sec chip to chip and linear acceleration is 5 m/s² (16 ft/s²), which costs time on parts with many short moves
  • The 1,200 mm (47 in) Z version has no part-size figure of its own in the table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the working envelope of the Modig FlexiMill?

X travel is 2,000-10,000 mm (80-395 in) and Y travel is 1,400 mm (55 in). Z travel is 2,200 mm (90 in) with option 1 or 1,200 mm (47 in) with option 2. The largest part is listed as 10,000 x 2,200 x 1,400 mm (395 x 90 x 55 in), length by depth by height.

02 What is the U-axis on the FlexiMill?

It is an optional axis with 1,260 mm (50 in) of travel, and it feeds at 0-60 m/min (0-2,400 in/min) like X, Y and Z. Added to X, Y, Z, A and C it would account for the sixth axis in Modig's 'up to 6-axis' description. The table does not describe what the U-axis carries, so ask Modig how it is used on your part.

03 Which materials and spindle does the FlexiMill use?

Modig lists aluminum and composite. The spindle reaches up to 30,000 rpm with up to 125 kW (168 hp) S1 on an HSK-63A interface. No torque value appears in the table, so the machine should be judged as a high-speed cutter for those two materials, not as a machine for steel or titanium.

04 How many tools does the FlexiMill hold?

Up to 300, with a tool change time of 15 sec chip to chip. The interface is HSK-63A. Maximum tool length, diameter and weight are not listed, so confirm them before planning long-reach tools for deep parts.

05 How far do the rotary axes move?

A covers +/- 110 degrees and C covers +/- 190 degrees, both at 360 degrees/sec. Because C stops at +/- 190 degrees instead of rotating continuously, toolpaths that keep turning in one direction need an unwind move.

06 How does the FlexiMill compare with the Modig MHM?

Both are listed with spindles of up to 30,000 rpm. The MHM goes to up to 150 kW (201 hp) S1 with HSK-A63, HSK-A63/80 or HSK-A100 and holds 120 tools. The FlexiMill is listed at up to 125 kW (168 hp) S1 with HSK-63A and up to 300 tools. The MHM works from pallets of 4,000 / 6,000 / 8,000 mm in length, while the FlexiMill offers X travel from 2,000 to 10,000 mm (80 to 395 in).
