KRC Helix HMC — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the KRC Helix HMC that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from KRC or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The KRC Helix HMC is a 6-axis horizontal machining center built around dual vertical columns and a rotary B-axis table, 72 in (1,829 mm) in diameter as standard. Standard linear travels are 78 in (1,981 mm) in X, 147 in (3,734 mm) in Y and 66 in (1,676 mm) in Z.

The tall Y axis is the point of the design. KRC positions the machine for cylindrical and tall cone-shaped parts, which stand upright on the table while a 2-axis spindle head works around them. That head tilts +/- 110 degrees in A at 130 rpm, and the C axis turns at 120 rpm; a continuous rotating head is available. KRC also says the configuration can be tailored so the spindle reaches both the top and the bottom of a part in one setup.

The standard spindle takes HSK 100A tooling and is rated at 34 kW (45.6 hp) nominal power and 12,000 rpm. Up to 30,000 rpm is available depending on tooling. KRC notes that many spindle and tooling options exist, which fits its description of the high-speed heads as suited to composite parts. The automatic tool changer is offered with 2 to 200 pockets.

Feedrates are 500 ipm (12,700 mm/min) standard on X and Z and 300 ipm (7,620 mm/min) on Y, with up to 1,000 ipm (25,400 mm/min) available; on Y the higher rate depends on travel. The table turns at 10 rpm as standard, with 30+ rpm offered. Nearly every figure here is a starting point: X can be built to any length, Z depends on table size, and pallets, dual tables or a square table can replace the round one. KRC publishes no table load, weight or accuracy figures for the series.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Y travel of 147 in (3,734 mm) for tall parts standing upright on the table
  • 2-axis head with +/- 110 degrees of A tilt and a C axis, giving six axes with the B-axis table
  • HSK 100A spindle with 34 kW (45.6 hp) nominal power and 12,000 rpm as standard
  • Tool changer sized from 2 to 200 pockets to match the job
  • X travel can be built to any length, and the table can be pallets, dual tables or a square table
  • Fanuc or Siemens controls

Limitations

  • Standard feedrates are 500 ipm (12,700 mm/min) on X and Z and 300 ipm (7,620 mm/min) on Y; the 1,000 ipm (25,400 mm/min) rate is an upgrade
  • The standard table speed is 10 rpm, so the B axis is a positioning and contouring axis, not a turning table
  • KRC publishes no table load, machine weight, positioning accuracy or spindle torque for the series
  • The C-axis travel row on the page is printed unclearly, so the head rotation range has to be confirmed

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the standard travels of the KRC Helix HMC?

Standard travels are 78 in (1,981 mm) in X, 147 in (3,734 mm) in Y, which KRC marks as the maximum, and 66 in (1,676 mm) in Z. The B-axis table is 72 in (1,829 mm) in diameter. X is customizable to any length and Z depends on the table size chosen.

02 What spindle does the Helix HMC have?

The standard spindle uses HSK 100A tooling, with 34 kW (45.6 hp) of nominal power and a maximum speed of 12,000 rpm. KRC lists up to 30,000 rpm as available, dependant on tooling, and says many spindle and tooling options are available. No torque figure is published.

03 Why is the Helix HMC called a 6-axis machine?

It has three linear axes (X, Y and Z), a rotary B-axis table and a 2-axis spindle head with A and C rotation. The A axis has +/- 110 degrees of travel and moves at 130 rpm; the C axis moves at 120 rpm, and a continuous rotating head is available. The table turns at 10 rpm as standard.

04 How many tools can the Helix HMC hold?

KRC lists the automatic tool changer with 2 to 200 pockets available, so the magazine is chosen for the application instead of being fixed. Tooling is HSK 100A as standard, and other tooling options are offered.

05 Can the Helix HMC be automated?

KRC lists optional tables, pallet changers and work fixturing, and says all models in the series can be customized with Fanuc or Siemens controls, flexible or dedicated tooling and fixtures, multiple table size options and automation. The B-axis can be configured with pallets, dual tables or a square table.
