Modig MHM — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Modig MHM that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Modig or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Modig MHM is a horizontal machining center for large aluminum and composite parts, built around pallets from 4,000 x 1,000 mm (157.5 x 39.5 in) to 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315 x 98.5 in) and available with 1 or 2 spindles. X travel is 4,200, 6,200 or 8,200 mm (165.3, 244 or 323 in) and Y travel is 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 or 2,500 mm (39.5, 59, 79 or 98.5 in). Z travel is 700 mm (27.5 in) on every size.

Each X travel is slightly longer than the matching pallet length of 4,000, 6,000 or 8,000 mm (157.5, 236 or 315 in), and the four Y travels equal the four pallet widths, so the spindle covers the whole pallet face. Pallets are loaded by a sliding or a tilting system. The table says nothing more about either, so ask Modig how each one handles the pallet size you need.

The spindle figures point to fast, light cuts: up to 30,000 rpm and up to 150 kW (201 hp) S1, with torque of up to 88 Nm (65 ft-lbs) S1. High power with low torque means the power arrives at high speed, which is how aluminum is cut, and it agrees with the listed materials. Interfaces are HSK-A63, HSK-A63/80 or HSK-A100, and the magazine holds 120 tools. The table does not say how those tools are shared when 2 spindles are fitted.

Linear axes feed at 60 m/min (2,400 in/min) and accelerate at 7 m/s² (23 ft/s²). A covers +/- 110 degrees and C +/- 360 degrees, both at 420 degrees/sec with 2,500 degrees/s² of acceleration. The control is listed as Fanuc 500i-A or Siemens One. Next to the FlexiMill, which is listed at up to 125 kW (168 hp) S1 with HSK-63A only, the MHM has the larger power figure and three interface choices but a fixed 120 tools against up to 300.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Pallets from 4,000 x 1,000 mm (157.5 x 39.5 in) up to 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315 x 98.5 in), with sliding or tilting pallet loading
  • Available with 1 or 2 spindles; speed is up to 30,000 rpm and power up to 150 kW (201 hp) S1
  • A and C axes feed at 420 degrees/sec with 2,500 degrees/s² of acceleration
  • Three interface choices: HSK-A63, HSK-A63/80 or HSK-A100
  • Y travel in four steps from 1,000 mm (39.5 in) to 2,500 mm (98.5 in), matching the pallet widths
  • Control is a choice of Fanuc 500i-A or Siemens One

Limitations

  • Spindle torque is up to 88 Nm (65 ft-lbs) S1, so heavy low-speed cuts are outside what the table supports
  • Z travel is 700 mm (27.5 in) on every size, which limits part depth however large the pallet
  • Aluminum and composite are the only materials listed
  • Tool capacity is a single figure, 120, with no larger magazine listed
  • No tool change time, pallet load or part weight appears in the table

Best For

Large aluminum parts on pallets up to 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315 x 98.5 in) Composite parts machined at up to 30,000 rpm with A and C axes Pallet-loaded production using the sliding or tilting loading system Contoured surfaces that need fast rotary moves, at 420 degrees/sec on A and C Wide, shallow parts within 700 mm (27.5 in) of Z travel

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What pallet sizes does the Modig MHM take?

Pallet length is 4,000, 6,000 or 8,000 mm (157.5, 236 or 315 in) and pallet width is 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 or 2,500 mm (39.5, 59, 79 or 98.5 in). X travel is 4,200, 6,200 or 8,200 mm (165.3, 244 or 323 in), Y travel matches the four pallet widths, and Z travel is 700 mm (27.5 in). Pallets are loaded by a sliding or a tilting system.

02 What spindle does the MHM use?

One or two spindles can be fitted. Speed is up to 30,000 rpm, power up to 150 kW (201 hp) S1 and torque up to 88 Nm (65 ft-lbs) S1. The interface is HSK-A63, HSK-A63/80 or HSK-A100. The table does not say which interface goes with the top speed or power, so ask for the rating of the specific spindle quoted.

03 Is the MHM suitable for steel or titanium?

The table does not support it. Modig lists aluminum and composite as the materials, and spindle torque is up to 88 Nm (65 ft-lbs) S1, which is a high-speed spindle rating. Within Modig's range the IM-8 is a model listed with a 550 Nm (406 ft-lbs) torque option.

04 Which control does the MHM run?

The control row lists Fanuc 500i-A or Siemens One. No control features or software options are listed beyond the name, so what is included with each choice has to come from Modig's quotation.

05 How fast are the MHM axes?

X, Y and Z feed at 60 m/min (2,400 in/min) with 7 m/s² (23 ft/s²) of acceleration. The A and C axes feed at 420 degrees/sec and accelerate at 2,500 degrees/s². A has a range of +/- 110 degrees and C of +/- 360 degrees.

06 How many tools does the MHM hold?

The magazine holds 120 tools. For comparison the FlexiMill is listed with up to 300 and the HHV2 with 12 or 24. The MHM table gives no tool change time and no limits for tool length, diameter or weight.
