Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HMC-800 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
A pallet load of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) on an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) pallet is the headline figure of the Hartford HMC-800, a 50-taper horizontal machining center with travels of 1,000 mm (39.4 in), 850 mm (33.5 in) and 950 mm (37.4 in).
Compare that with the HMC-600 below it: 600 kg (1,323 lb) on a 630 mm pallet. The step in pallet size is modest, the step in load is two and a half times, and Z travel grows from 650 mm (25.6 in) on the HMC-600 to 950 mm (37.4 in). The HMC-800 is the model for heavy castings and for tall tombstones loaded with several parts.
Spindle drive is a matter of material. For iron and steel there is the gear head at 6,000 rpm. For aluminium, or for finishing bores at higher surface speed, there is the built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm, whose thermal behaviour Hartford controls with a cooler system. Either takes a 15 / 18.5 kW motor, or 18.5 / 22 kW or 22 / 26 kW as options (Cont. / 30 min).
The magazine is listed with 40, 60 or 90 tools. Pallets locate on 4 taper cones with air blast and a hydraulic drawbar, and the pallet changer is part of the machine base. Hartford states a 5-year warranty on the guideways.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Pallet load of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) on an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) pallet
- 950 mm (37.4 in) of Z travel and 850 mm (33.5 in) of Y
- Gear spindle at 6,000 rpm or built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm
- 40, 60 or 90 tool magazine
- Pallet changer integrated in the machine base
Limitations
- No 30-tool magazine is listed, unlike on the HMC-8
- Spindle power options stop at 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min)
- X travel of 1,000 mm (39.4 in) limits how far a wide fixture can overhang the pallet
- Maximum workpiece diameter and height are not published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
1,500 kg (3,307 lb) as an average load, on a pallet of 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in). That figure includes the fixture or tombstone.
02
The published pallets, travels, spindles and motors are the same. The HMC-8 lists a magazine of 30 / 40 / 60 / 90 tools and prints no correctly labelled pallet load; the HMC-800 lists 40 / 60 / 90 tools and a 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) load. Hartford's pages do not explain the two model names further.
03
It lists a built-in type spindle at 10,000 rpm in addition to the 6,000 rpm gear head. Hartford says the built-in spindle resists long continuous running at high speed and that its thermal behaviour is controlled by a cooler system.
04
1,000 mm (39.4 in) in X, 850 mm (33.5 in) in Y and 950 mm (37.4 in) in Z. The spindle nose is #50 and the tool shank BBT50, with CAT50 and DIN69871 as alternatives.
