Overview

The MCM TANK 1600 EVO is the 1,600 mm (63.0 in) X-stroke model of the TANK EVO line of horizontal machining centers. More than any other size in the line, it is a machine you configure: the 5-axis versions carry two alternative Y strokes and two alternative Z strokes in MCM's table.

Start with the 4-Axes machine, which is fixed at 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of Y and 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of Z. The 5-Axes version lists Y as 1,400 / 1,500 mm (55.1 / 59.1 in) and Z as 1,600 / 1,960 mm (63.0 / 77.2 in). The Multitasking version has the same Y pair, with Z at 1,560 / 1,960 mm (61.4 / 77.2 in). The page does not say what selects the longer stroke, so the quotation should state which one you are getting.

Pallet choice follows the same split. Milling versions take 800 x 1,000 mm (31.5 x 39.3 in) or 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in). The Multitasking version takes round pallets of Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) or Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in) and spins them at up to 500 min-1 for turning and grinding; the milling tables are listed at 20 / 40 min-1.

The 5-axis versions use a tilting head with a 175 degree range (+80/-95). Rapid feed is 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm), tapers are HSK, ISO or CAPTO, and the magazine row reads "up to 80 (999)".

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 5-axis versions offer Z travel of up to 1,960 mm (77.2 in) and Y travel of up to 1,500 mm (59.1 in)
  • Square 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) pallet as the second option on the milling versions
  • Multitasking version turns Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) or Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in) pallets at up to 500 min-1
  • Tilting head with 175 degrees of travel (+80/-95) keeps the workpiece upright on the pallet
  • Offered as Single-Pallet, Twin-Pallet, Multi-Pallet or FMS

Limitations

  • The 4-Axes version is limited to 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of Z and 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of Y
  • Two Y and two Z figures are printed for the 5-axis versions with no explanation of what selects each
  • Rapid feed is 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm), a third below the 75 m/min (2,952.8 ipm) of the CLOCK 1200 EVO
  • Table load, spindle power and torque are not published in the table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why does MCM list two Y and two Z travels for the TANK 1600 EVO?

The table prints 1,400 / 1,500 mm (55.1 / 59.1 in) for Y on both 5-axis versions, and for Z 1,600 / 1,960 mm (63.0 / 77.2 in) on the 5-Axes and 1,560 / 1,960 mm (61.4 / 77.2 in) on the Multitasking version. No note explains the pairs. They read as alternative strokes, so have MCM confirm which applies to the machine quoted.

02 What pallet sizes does the TANK 1600 EVO take?

For the 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions: 800 x 1,000 mm (31.5 x 39.3 in), or 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) as the second option. For the 5-Axes Multitasking version: round pallets of Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) or Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in).

03 How fast is the rotary table?

The B-axis row gives 20 / 40 min-1 for the 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions and 500 min-1 for the 5-Axes Multitasking version. The higher figure is what makes turning possible on the Multitasking machine. MCM doesn't explain the two values on the milling versions.

04 How does the TANK 1600 EVO differ from the TANK.G 1600?

Both have 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X. The TANK.G 1600 is listed only in 5-axis versions, with 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of Y and pallets of 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) or 1,250 x 1,250 mm (49.2 x 49.2 in). This machine adds a 4-Axes version and a smaller 800 x 1,000 mm (31.5 x 39.3 in) pallet.
