Overview
The Litz LH-500B is the large-taper version of the 500 mm LH horizontal machining center. Tool shank is ISO 50 or BBT-50, spindle speed is 6,000 rpm, and travels are 700 mm (27.6 in) in X with 650 mm (25.6 in) in Y and Z.
Put the two 500 mm models side by side and the pattern is clear. The LH-500B runs at 6,000 rpm with 40 pockets where the LH-500A runs at 10,000 rpm with 60, and in return it takes tools of 20 kg (44 lb), 120 mm (4.7 in) in diameter with full pockets and 230 mm (9.1 in) without neighbours. The front spindle bearing is 100 mm (3.9 in) in bore where the LH-500A has 70 mm. It is built to hold big cutters steadily.
One figure does not change, and buyers should notice it. Maximum spindle torque is listed at 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) and the motor at 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp), the same as the A model. Drive is direct. So the B model adds tool size and spindle stiffness, not torque, and is suited to large-diameter boring and face milling at moderate depth in cast iron more than to heavy roughing in alloy steel.
Forty tools are standard and a 60T magazine is listed as an option, as is an 8,000 rpm spindle. Pallets are 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) and carry 500 kg (1,102 lb). Pallet change takes 18 s and rapids are 36,000 mm/min (1,417 ipm).
