Overview

The MCM TANK 1300 EVO is a horizontal machining center with 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of X travel, sold as a 4-Axes machine, a 5-Axes machine with a tilting head, or a 5-Axes Multitasking machine. Rapid feed is 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm) on X, Y and Z.

Unusually, the 5-axis versions of this model have more travel than the 4-axis one. Y grows from 1,300 mm (51.2 in) to 1,400 mm (55.1 in). Z goes from 1,300 mm (51.2 in) on the 4-Axes machine to 1,400 mm (55.1 in) on the 5-Axes machine and 1,560 mm (61.4 in) on the Multitasking one. A tilting head needs stroke to swing around the part, and MCM has added it instead of taking it out of the work zone.

The head tilts through 175 degrees, +80/-95. On the milling versions the B-axis row gives 20 / 40 min-1, a positioning and contouring table. The Multitasking version is a different machine at that point: 500 min-1, on a round pallet of Ø 860 mm (Ø 33.9 in) or Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in), for turning and grinding alongside milling. MCM names aerospace, energy, oil and gas and general precision mechanics as the sectors where the TANK line's multitasking is applied.

Milling pallets are 630 x 800 mm (24.8 x 31.5 in) or 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in). Tapers are HSK, ISO or CAPTO, and the magazine row reads "up to 80 (999)".

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 5-axis versions gain travel over the 4-Axes machine: Y is 1,400 mm (55.1 in) and Z is up to 1,560 mm (61.4 in)
  • Tilting head with 175 degrees of travel (+80/-95)
  • Multitasking table turns at 500 min-1 on a Ø 860 mm (Ø 33.9 in) or Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) pallet
  • Milling pallets of 630 x 800 mm (24.8 x 31.5 in) or 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in)
  • Single-Pallet, Twin-Pallet, Multi-Pallet and FMS layouts are all listed

Limitations

  • Rapid feed is 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm), slower than the 75 m/min (2,952.8 ipm) of the TANK 1000 EVO
  • The B-axis of the milling versions is listed at 20 / 40 min-1, so turning needs the Multitasking version
  • MCM does not say what separates the 20 and the 40 in the table speed row
  • No pallet load, spindle power or torque appears in the table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How do the three versions of the TANK 1300 EVO differ in travel?

X is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) on all of them. Y is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) on the 4-Axes version and 1,400 mm (55.1 in) on both 5-axis versions. Z is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) on the 4-Axes, 1,400 mm (55.1 in) on the 5-Axes and 1,560 mm (61.4 in) on the 5-Axes Multitasking version.

02 Can the TANK 1300 EVO turn parts?

The 5-Axes Multitasking version can. MCM lists milling, turning and grinding for it, with a B-axis speed of 500 min-1 and round pallets of Ø 860 mm (Ø 33.9 in) or Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in). The 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions are listed for milling, with a table speed row of 20 / 40 min-1.

03 What is the tilting range of the head?

175 degrees, split +80/-95, on the 5-Axes and 5-Axes Multitasking versions. The 4-Axes version has no tilting head. MCM's series text also mentions a vertical dividing unit with horizontal axis as an alternative for multitasking, which is not broken out in this model's table.

04 How does it compare with the TANK 1600 EVO?

The TANK 1600 EVO has 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X and starts at an 800 x 1,000 mm (31.5 x 39.3 in) pallet, where this machine has 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of X and starts at 630 x 800 mm (24.8 x 31.5 in). Both list the same rapid feed of 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm) and the same 175 degree head.

05 What tool magazine does the TANK 1300 EVO have?

Capacity is printed as "up to 80 (999)" for all three versions, without the footnote that would explain the bracketed number. HSK, ISO and CAPTO tapers are offered. Maximum tool diameter, length and weight are not in the table.
