Overview

With 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of X travel, the MCM TANK.G 2600 is the medium-large machine of the TANK.G line, one size below the top. It is a horizontal machining center offered in 4-Axes, 5-Axes and 5-Axes Multitasking configurations.

The long axis is the whole story. Y and Z are the figures of the TANK.G 2000: on that machine and this one, Z is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and Y is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) for the 4-Axes version or 1,700 mm (66.9 in) with a tilting head. The pallets match too. So the extra X stroke is for long workpieces, for two fixtures side by side, or simply for letting the spindle clear a wide part at both ends.

MCM's table has one detail worth a question. Rapid feed is 40 m/min (1,574.8 ipm) for the 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions but 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) for the Multitasking version. No reason is given for the faster figure on the machine that also turns, so ask MCM to confirm it for your order.

Milling pallets are 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) or 1,250 x 1,250 mm (49.2 x 49.2 in) on a 20 min-1 B-axis. The Multitasking table lists Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) or Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in) pallets at 200 min-1. The tilting head covers 175 degrees (+80/-95), tapers are HSK, ISO or CAPTO, and the magazine capacity is printed as "up to 80 (999)".

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of X travel with 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Z
  • 4-Axes version offers 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Y
  • Tilting head with 175 degrees of travel (+80/-95) on both 5-axis versions
  • Multitasking version is listed at 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) rapid feed and a 200 min-1 table
  • Works with Single-Pallet, Twin-Pallet, Multi-Pallet and FMS layouts

Limitations

  • 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions are listed at 40 m/min (1,574.8 ipm), slower than the 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) of the TANK.G 2000
  • The largest pallet in the table is 1,250 x 1,250 mm (49.2 x 49.2 in), small against a 2,600 mm (102.4 in) X stroke
  • Y drops to 1,700 mm (66.9 in) on the 5-axis versions
  • MCM's own text on the page names pallet diameters that differ from the table, so pallet options need confirming

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the TANK.G 2600 add over the TANK.G 2000?

X travel: 2,600 mm (102.4 in) against the 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of the TANK.G 2000. Y, Z, pallets, table speeds and the tilting head carry the same figures on both machines. The 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions of this machine have a lower rapid feed, 40 m/min (1,574.8 ipm).

02 What are the Y and Z travels of the TANK.G 2600?

Z is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in every configuration. Y is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) on the 4-Axes version and 1,700 mm (66.9 in) on the 5-Axes and 5-Axes Multitasking versions, which carry the tilting head.

03 Which pallets fit the TANK.G 2600?

The table lists 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) and 1,250 x 1,250 mm (49.2 x 49.2 in) for the milling versions, and Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) and Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in) for the Multitasking version. The introduction on MCM's page names different round sizes from its own table, so get the pallet list in writing.

04 Why is the Multitasking version faster in rapid feed?

MCM does not say. The table gives 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) for the 5-Axes Multitasking version and 40 m/min (1,574.8 ipm) for the 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions, with no note. The neighbouring sizes list one rapid figure for all versions, so treat the difference as something to confirm.
