Matec VMC B — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Matec VMC B that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Matec or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Matec VMC B is the heavy-spindle version of MATEC's 3-axis VMC vertical machining centre. Where the VMC takes HSK63 or SK40 holders, the VMC B takes HSK100 or SK50, and MATEC's table gives it a single column of ranges rather than fixed sizes: 860 to 2,000 mm (33.9 to 78.7 in) in X, 600 to 1,000 mm (23.6 to 39.4 in) in Y and 600 to 800 mm (23.6 to 31.5 in) in Z.

The standard spindle runs to 6,000 rpm and is rated 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) at the short-duty rating, 15 kW (20.1 hp) and 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) continuous. Versions of 8,000 and 10,000 rpm are listed beside it. As on the VMC, a 2-speed gearbox with 365 Nm (269 lb-ft) at 8,000 rpm is optional, and for the larger taper that is the configuration that makes full use of the tooling.

Tool limits rise with the taper. On the VMC B a tool can be 350 mm (13.8 in) long and weigh 15 kg (33 lb), where the VMC allows 300 mm (11.8 in) and 7 kg (15 lb). The construction is the one MATEC describes for the whole series: machine base, column and table in grey cast, a box-frame structure calculated by FEA, roller linear guides in X, Y and Z, ball screw drives and a disc magazine with a dual gripper.

MATEC's table does not give the VMC B its own figures for table size, tool pockets, rapid traverse, footprint or weight. Those cells are shared with the largest VMC column, and it is not stated which of them hold across the VMC B's travel range. Ask MATEC for the table, magazine and weight that go with the travel you need. The standard control is the HEIDENHAIN TNC 640 HSCI, with SINUMERIK 828D sl listed as an option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • HSK100 or SK50 spindle with 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) at the short-duty rating in the standard version
  • Tools up to 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 15 kg (33 lb)
  • Optional 2-speed gearbox with 365 Nm (269 lb-ft) at 8,000 rpm
  • Travel ranges up to 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in X and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y
  • Grey cast base, column and table with roller linear guides in all three axes

Limitations

  • Standard spindle speed is 6,000 rpm; 8,000 and 10,000 rpm are listed as alternatives
  • Continuous torque of the standard spindle is 90 Nm (66 lb-ft)
  • MATEC's table gives no separate table size, magazine capacity, rapid traverse or weight for this version
  • Travels are given only as ranges, so the exact envelope has to be settled with MATEC

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the VMC B differ from the VMC?

The spindle and the tools it can carry. The VMC B takes HSK100 or SK50 holders, runs to 6,000 rpm as standard and is rated 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) at the short-duty rating. The VMC takes HSK63 or SK40 holders, runs to 8,000 rpm and is rated 14 kW (18.8 hp) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft).

02 What travels does the VMC B have?

MATEC gives ranges, not fixed sizes: 860 to 2,000 mm (33.9 to 78.7 in) in X, 600 to 1,000 mm (23.6 to 39.4 in) in Y and 600 to 800 mm (23.6 to 31.5 in) in Z. The exact combination is settled when the machine is specified.

03 What spindle options are there for the VMC B?

The standard spindle runs to 6,000 rpm, and 8,000 and 10,000 rpm versions are listed. A 2-speed gearbox giving 365 Nm (269 lb-ft) at 8,000 rpm is optional. The standard ratings are 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) and 15 kW (20.1 hp), with 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) and 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) of torque.

04 Which control does the VMC B use?

The standard equipment list for the series names the HEIDENHAIN TNC 640 HSCI, and SINUMERIK 828D sl is listed as an option. Preparation for a 4th axis, without the power module, is standard, and MATEC offers CNC rotary tables of Ø 240 or 350 mm for it.
