Litz LT-520

The Litz LT-520 is the largest of the three two-axis LT slant-bed lathes: a 10 in (254 mm) chuck machine with an A2-8 spindle nose, 78 mm (3.1 in) bar capacity, a 400 mm (15.7 in) maximum turning diameter and 710 mm (28.0 in) of turning length.

Bore size sets it apart. The spindle has an 88 mm (3.5 in) through hole behind a 130 mm (5.1 in) front bearing, which is what lets 78 mm bar pass, and the motor is rated 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp). Speed is modest at 30-3,500 rpm. That pairing points at steel and cast iron in larger diameters, where surface speed comes from the size of the part and not from the spindle.

Between centres there is 845 mm (33.3 in), with 710 mm of Z travel and 220 mm (8.7 in) of X. The tailstock body travels 580 mm (22.8 in) and its MT5 quill strokes 150 mm (5.9 in); Litz lists the programmable hydraulic quill as standard. Swing over the bed is 520 mm (20.5 in), but swing over the slide is 400 mm, so that is the figure to plan long shaft work around.

The turret has 10 stations and takes 25 mm (1.0 in) square shanks and 50 mm (2.0 in) boring bars. Jobs that need more than ten tools will have to be split. Both axes rapid at 20 m/min (787 ipm).

Litz builds the LT bed as a one-piece casting with a 30 degrees slant. The machine weighs 5,000 kg (11,023 lb), measures 2,850 mm (112.2 in) wide by 1,800 mm (70.9 in) deep, and asks for 25 kVA and 6 kg/cm² of air. A chip conveyor with cart is in the standard list; the bar feeder, parts catcher and tool setter are options.
