Overview

The Litz DM-600 is a high-speed vertical machining center built on a 30-taper spindle that runs to 24,000 rpm. Travels are 600 mm (23.6 in) in X, 410 mm (16.1 in) in Y and 540 mm (21.3 in) in Z, and the machine weighs 4,200 kg (9,259 lb).

Everything about the spindle says small tools. The shank is BT-30 and the motor is rated 3.7 / 4.6 kW (5.0 / 6.2 hp), continuous and 30 min. At 24,000 rpm that is the right combination for engraving, electrode and small mould detail, and for drilling and finishing in aluminium. It is the wrong one for a large face mill in steel. The other DM models, such as the DM-800, use BBT-40 and an 18,000 rpm spindle with a 15 / 18.5 kW motor, so the DM-600 is the fine-detail machine of the family and not simply its smallest size.

The frame figures match a compact VMC: a 700 x 400 mm (27.6 x 15.7 in) table that carries 350 kg (772 lb), five 14 mm T-slots, and 100 to 640 mm (3.9 to 25.2 in) between spindle nose and table. Rapids are 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm).

The arm-type changer holds 24 tools up to 200 mm (7.9 in) long. A spindle oil cooler and spindle head coolant cooling system are standard, which matters on a spindle that will spend hours near top speed. Control is the Mitsubishi M80.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 24,000 rpm spindle, the highest standard speed among the DM models
  • Spindle oil cooler, air seal and spindle head coolant cooling system are standard
  • 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm) rapids and feed up to 20,000 mm/min
  • Compact installation at 4,200 kg (9,259 lb) and 15 kVA

Limitations

  • BT-30 shank and a 3.7 / 4.6 kW (5.0 / 6.2 hp) motor rule out large cutters and heavy cuts
  • Table load is limited to 350 kg (772 lb)
  • Tool length is capped at 200 mm (7.9 in)
  • Linear scales and the chip conveyor are options

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How fast is the Litz DM-600 spindle?

The spindle speed is 24,000 rpm. It uses a BT-30 tool shank and a motor rated 3.7 / 4.6 kW (5.0 / 6.2 hp), continuous and 30 min. A spindle oil cooler, spindle air seal system and spindle head coolant cooling system are listed as standard.

02 What is the difference between the DM-600 and the DM-800?

More than size. The DM-600 is a BT-30 machine at 24,000 rpm with a 3.7 / 4.6 kW motor. The DM-800 is a BBT-40 machine at 18,000 rpm with a 15 / 18.5 kW motor, 800 mm (31.5 in) of X travel and a 500 kg (1,102 lb) table load.

03 What are the DM-600 travels and table size?

X, Y and Z travels are 600 mm (23.6 in), 410 mm (16.1 in) and 540 mm (21.3 in). The table is 700 x 400 mm (27.6 x 15.7 in) and is rated for 350 kg (772 lb). The spindle nose sits 100 to 640 mm (3.9 to 25.2 in) above the table.

04 Which control does the DM-600 use?

Litz lists the Mitsubishi M80 for the DM-600, both in the specification table and as the standard control in the accessory list. Linear scales on the three axes and a 4th axis rotating table appear as options.
