Overview

The Litz LT-520M puts a C axis and a 12-station live turret on the larger LT bed: a 10 in (254 mm) chuck, an A2-8 spindle with 78 mm (3.1 in) bar capacity and 710 mm (28.0 in) of turning length.

What you get here is a big turning spindle with a small milling spindle beside it. The main motor is 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) at 30-3,500 rpm, with an 88 mm (3.5 in) through hole and a 130 mm (5.1 in) front bearing. The driven tools share a 3.7 / 5.5 kW (5.0 / 7.4 hp), 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) motor with a 10-5,000 rpm range. Roughing a heavy shaft and then drilling and tapping its flange is the natural job. Milling large pockets is not.

Maximum turning diameter is 275 mm (10.8 in), though the bed swings 520 mm (20.5 in) and the slide 400 mm (15.7 in). Anyone moving up for diameter should check that figure first, because the live turret takes much of the swing. Length is the stronger side: 845 mm (33.3 in) between centres, a tailstock that travels 580 mm (22.8 in) and an MT5 quill with 150 mm (5.9 in) of stroke.

For the C axis Litz quotes 0.001 degree indexing and a rapid rotation speed of 40 RPM. The turret holds 25 mm (1.0 in) square shanks and 40 mm (1.6 in) boring bars, and rapids are 20 m/min (787 ipm) in both X and Z. Plan for a 25 kVA supply, a 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) machine and a footprint 2,850 mm (112.2 in) wide by 1,800 mm (70.9 in) deep. The coolant tank holds 230 L.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big a bar can the Litz LT-520M take?

Bar capacity is 78 mm (3.1 in). The spindle has an A2-8 nose, an 88 mm (3.5 in) through hole and a 130 mm (5.1 in) front bearing inner diameter, and the chuck size is 10 in (254 mm). A bar feeder and a bar feeder interface are optional accessories.

02 What are the live tool figures on the LT-520M?

The turret has 12 stations, all 12 of which can be live. The milling motor is rated 3.7 / 5.5 kW (5.0 / 7.4 hp) with 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) of torque and a milling speed of 10-5,000 rpm. Standard accessories include one axial and one radial drilling and milling head.

03 What is the turning envelope of the LT-520M?

Maximum turning diameter is 275 mm (10.8 in) and maximum turning length 710 mm (28.0 in). X travel is 220 mm (8.7 in), Z travel 710 mm, swing over the bed 520 mm (20.5 in), swing over the slide 400 mm (15.7 in) and centre distance 845 mm (33.3 in).

04 Is the LT-520M a mill-turn machine with a Y axis?

No. It is a turning centre with X, Z and C axes and driven tools in the turret. The table lists no Y axis and no second spindle, and the right-hand end carries a tailstock with an MT5 taper. Milling is limited to what C, X and Z movement can reach.
