Overview

The Litz AW-1000A is the BBT-40 model of the AW series, a vertical machining center with 1,020 mm (40.2 in) of X travel, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 600 mm (23.6 in) of Z. Litz heads the page AW Series (Roller). The spindle is direct-drive at 12,000 rpm.

For a one-metre machine the proportions are unusually stout. Y travel is 650 mm, the table carries 1,500 kg (3,307 lb), and the machine weighs 9,700 kg (21,384 lb). The spindle centre sits 780 mm (30.7 in) from the Z rail surface. Those are figures that normally belong to a larger frame.

Litz lists spindle power as 15 / 18.5 / 33 kW (20.1 / 24.8 / 44.3 hp) without labelling the three ratings, so ask which duty cycle the 33 kW figure refers to. Axis motors are 4.5 / 4.5 / 5.5 kW and rapids are 36 / 36 / 30 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 1,181 ipm).

The standard build is generous. A chip conveyor, chip cart, wash down device and spindle oil cooling system are all included, where several other Litz verticals list them as options. The magazine holds 24 tools, with 30T and 40T as options, and an HSK-63A spindle interface can be ordered. Tool limits on the A model are 300 mm (11.8 in) and 7 kg (15 lb). Control is the FANUC 0iF plus type 1; Mitsubishi M80 and Siemens 828D are options.
