Overview
The Makino V33i Graphite is a mid-size graphite vertical with 450 x 350 x 300 mm (17.7 x 13.8 x 11.8 in) of travel, a 600 x 400 mm (23.6 x 15.7 in) table and an 11 kW (14.8 hp) spindle. Makino no longer has it in its current lineup and it is probably an older model; the figures here are the listed ones, not checked against a Makino page.
What sets it apart from the smaller V22 Graphite is the spindle choice. The taper row gives CAT40, with HSK-A63, HSK-F63 and HSK-E32 in brackets as alternatives, so a used machine could carry anything from a general-purpose 40-taper spindle to a small high-speed one. The spindle rows disagree on speed: one gives 30,000 RPM as the maximum, another gives 20,000 with CAT40 and lists faster HSK versions. Read the nameplate and the spindle's own data before assuming either.
Tools can be up to 3.15 in across and 15.4 lbs, which with 11 kW (14.8 hp) allows proper roughing of larger electrodes, not only finishing. The magazine holds 25 tools as standard, with 40 and 60 listed as options, and tool-to-tool time is 4.8 secs.
The axes run on roller-type linear guides at 787 in/min rapid and 394 in/min cutting feed, inside an integrated sealed enclosure with a negative-pressure system for graphite dust. Table load is listed as 200 kg (441 lb), although a second row gives 660 lbs as the maximum payload; plan around the lower figure. The control is the Makino Professional 6 (Pro 6) and the machine weighs about 5,800 kg (12,787 lb).
