Overview

The Litz MV-1400A is a large-table vertical machining center with BT-40 tooling: 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of X travel, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and 675 mm (26.6 in) of Z, an 8,000 rpm spindle and a 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) table rating. The machine weighs 11,000 kg (24,250 lb).

From this size up the MV series changes character. Rapids fall to 24 / 24 / 20 m/min (945 / 945 / 787 ipm) and maximum cutting feed to 10,000 mm/min, half the figure of the MV-1200A. Litz lists a front door safety system as standard, and a ZF gearbox among the options. These are the marks of a machine for heavy plates and long cycle times, where rigidity counts for more than traverse speed.

The spindle motor is 11 / 15 kW (15 / 20 HP), continuous and 30 min. Standard speed is 8,000 rpm with 10,000 rpm and 12,000 rpm as options. One oddity in the table: the standard magazine is given as 20 tools, while the accessory list names a 24T arm type magazine as standard and a 32T one as optional. Confirm the magazine size in the quotation.

The 1,400 x 620 mm (55.1 x 24.4 in) table has five 18 mm T-slots. Spindle nose to table distance is 85 to 760 mm (3.3 to 29.9 in). Tools are limited to 7 kg (15 lb), 300 mm (11.8 in) long, and 80 mm (3.1 in) in diameter with adjacent tools or 125 mm (4.9 in) without. Supply is 35 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,400 x 650 x 675 mm travels with a 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) table load
  • 11 / 15 kW (15 / 20 HP) motor on an 8,000 rpm BT-40 spindle
  • 10,000 rpm and 12,000 rpm spindles and a ZF gearbox are available as options
  • Up to 760 mm (29.9 in) from spindle nose to table for tall parts

Limitations

  • Rapids of 24 / 24 / 20 m/min (945 / 945 / 787 ipm) are slower than the 36 / 36 / 24 m/min of the MV-1200A
  • Cutting feed tops out at 10,000 mm/min
  • Tool weight is limited to 7 kg (15 lb)
  • Table and accessory list disagree on the standard magazine size

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Litz MV-1400A?

The MV-1400A travels 1,400 mm (55.1 in) in X, 650 mm (25.6 in) in Y and 675 mm (26.6 in) in Z. The table measures 1,400 x 620 mm (55.1 x 24.4 in), carries 1,000 kg (2,205 lb), and sits 85 to 760 mm (3.3 to 29.9 in) below the spindle nose.

02 How does the MV-1400A differ from the MV-1400B?

The MV-1400A is the BT-40 machine: 8,000 rpm, 11 / 15 kW, tools up to 7 kg (15 lb). The MV-1400B is BT-50 at 6,000 rpm with a 15 / 18.5 kW motor and tools up to 15 kg (33 lb). Travels, table and the 11,000 kg (24,250 lb) weight are the same.

03 How fast does the MV-1400A move?

Rapid traverse is 24 m/min (945 ipm) in X and Y and 20 m/min (787 ipm) in Z. Cutting feed is programmable from 1 to 10,000 mm/min. Axis motors are 2.0 / 2.0 / 3.5 kW.

04 How many tools does the MV-1400A hold?

The specification table gives 20 tools. The accessory list, however, marks a 24T arm type magazine as standard and a 32T arm type magazine as an option, so the count should be confirmed with Litz when ordering.
