Kiwa Triple V21i — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Kiwa Triple V21i that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Kiwa or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Kiwa Triple V21i is a compact fixed-table vertical machining center: 610 x 410 x 510 mm (24.0 x 16.1 x 20.1 in) of travel in a footprint of 2,325 x 2,405 mm (91.5 x 94.7 in). The column moves in X, Y and Z, and the 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in) work surface does not.

That near-square floor plan is what sets it apart in Kiwa's vertical range. The Triple V22 has the same single-table travels but is listed at 1,998 x 3,074 mm (78.7 x 121.0 in), narrower and a good deal deeper. If depth from the aisle is the constraint, this is the model that fits; if machines stand shoulder to shoulder, the sibling is the tighter one. The 30-tool magazine widens the Triple V21i to 2,415 x 2,405 mm (95.1 x 94.7 in).

Because nothing under the workpiece moves, a fixture or a rotary table can be as heavy and as awkwardly placed as the job requires without changing how the axes behave. Kiwa also lists centre hole chip disposal for this model. Workpieces can stand up to 600 mm (23.6 in) high, which is more than the 510 mm (20.1 in) of Z travel, so check tool length against part height on tall setups.

The spindle runs at 10,000 min-1, or 12,000 min-1 as an option, on a BT 40 taper with CAT 40 as the alternative. Rapids are 60,000 mm/min (2,362 ipm). The magazine holds 24 tools and the control is the FANUC 0i-M.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Footprint of 2,325 x 2,405 mm (91.5 x 94.7 in) for 610 x 410 x 510 mm (24.0 x 16.1 x 20.1 in) of travel
  • Fixed 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in) work surface; the column carries all three axes
  • Centre hole chip disposal is listed by Kiwa for this model
  • Workpieces up to 600 mm (23.6 in) high
  • Rapids of 60,000 mm/min (2,362 ipm) and a 12,000 min-1 spindle option

Limitations

  • Spindle options end at 12,000 min-1, and only BT 40 and CAT 40 tapers are listed
  • Y travel of 410 mm (16.1 in) is less than the 450 mm depth of the work surface
  • The 30-tool magazine widens the machine to 2,415 x 2,405 mm (95.1 x 94.7 in)
  • Table load, spindle power and torque are not among the listed rows

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much floor space does the Triple V21i need?

Kiwa lists 2,325 x 2,405 mm (91.5 x 94.7 in) with the standard 24-tool magazine and 2,415 x 2,405 mm (95.1 x 94.7 in) with the 30-tool magazine. Both figures leave out the chip conveyor, so add room for it and for its discharge.

02 What size of work does the Triple V21i handle?

Travels are 610 mm (24.0 in) in X, 410 mm (16.1 in) in Y and 510 mm (20.1 in) in Z. The work surface is 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in), so it is wider and deeper than the travel that covers it. Maximum workpiece height is 600 mm (23.6 in). No load limit is listed.

03 Why does the column move instead of the table on the Triple V21i?

Kiwa's stated reason is that a fixed table makes it easy to arrange fixtures and rotary tables. With the column carrying X, Y and Z, the mass on the table has no effect on axis motion, and cables and hoses to a rotary table or hydraulic fixture do not have to follow a moving table.

04 Which spindle and control does the Triple V21i use?

The spindle is listed at 10,000 min-1, with 12,000 min-1 as an option, and takes BT 40 tooling or CAT 40 optionally. The control is the FANUC 0i-M. For the 15,000 min-1 option or an HSK-A63 taper, look at the Triple V22, which lists both.
