Kiwa Triple V40 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Kiwa Triple V40 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Kiwa or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Kiwa Triple V40 is a vertical machining center in which the column carries all three axes and the table stays still. Standard travels are 550 mm (21.7 in) in X, 550 mm (21.7 in) in Y and 410 mm (16.1 in) in Z, over a table of 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in).

Where the drives sit is the point of the design. Kiwa arranges the whole driving mechanism above the spindle, and says that keeping the X, Y and Z axes above the machining area gives the driving components a long life. Chips and coolant fall away from the guides and screws instead of onto them. It also keeps the machine narrow: 1,660 mm wide with the standard stroke.

Y travel equals X on the standard machine, more than the 450 mm depth of the table, and the stroke options push it further. Kiwa lists three larger envelopes: 710 x 710 x 410 mm (28.0 x 28.0 x 16.1 in), 1,000 x 710 x 510 mm (39.4 x 28.0 x 20.1 in) and 1,000 x 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 39.4 x 20.1 in). The table size and the floor space in the table are both given for the standard stroke only, so the figures for a longer machine have to come from Kiwa.

The standard spindle is an 8,000 min-1 direct-drive unit on a BT40 taper, and 12,000 min-1 is an option. The magazine holds 20 tools as standard; the listed alternatives are 15, 23, 30 and 40. A two-pallet changer and a 4/5 axis table are optional. Rapids are 60,000 mm/min (2,362 ipm) and the control is the FANUC 0i-MF Plus.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • All three axes are driven from above the spindle, away from the machining area
  • Y travel of 550 mm (21.7 in) matches the X travel on the standard machine
  • Three larger stroke options, up to 1,000 x 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 39.4 x 20.1 in)
  • Machine width as small as 1,660 mm with the standard stroke
  • A two-pallet changer and a 4/5 axis table are listed as options on a fixed-table machine
  • Rapids of 60,000 mm/min (2,362 ipm) on X, Y and Z

Limitations

  • The standard spindle stops at 8,000 min-1; 12,000 min-1 is an option
  • Standard Z travel is 410 mm (16.1 in), and only the two largest stroke options raise it to 510 mm
  • Table size and floor space are given for the standard stroke only
  • No table load, spindle power or torque figure appears among the listed rows

Best For

Plate and housing work that needs as much Y as X Lines where machine width matters more than depth Fixed-table setups with a rotary table or trunnion left in place Large flat parts with the 1,000 x 1,000 x 510 mm stroke option

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the column-moving design of the Triple V40 change for the user?

The table does not move, so the weight and overhang of a fixture or a rotary table do not affect axis motion. Kiwa places the driving mechanism above the spindle and states that locating the X, Y and Z axes above the machining area gives the driving components a long life. The layout also keeps the standard-stroke machine to a width of 1,660 mm.

02 Which travel options are listed for the Triple V40?

The standard stroke is 550 mm (21.7 in) in X and Y and 410 mm (16.1 in) in Z. The options are 710 x 710 x 410 mm (28.0 x 28.0 x 16.1 in), 1,000 x 710 x 510 mm (39.4 x 28.0 x 20.1 in) and 1,000 x 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 39.4 x 20.1 in). The 820 x 450 mm (32.3 x 17.7 in) table belongs to the standard stroke.

03 What spindle and tool magazine does the Triple V40 have?

The standard spindle is a direct-drive unit rated at 8,000 min-1, with a 12,000 min-1 direct-drive spindle as the option. The taper is BT40, or CAT40 optionally. The magazine holds 20 tools as standard, and Kiwa lists 15, 23, 30 and 40 tools as alternatives. Tool size limits are not listed.

04 Can the Triple V40 be fitted with a pallet changer or extra axes?

Yes, as options. Kiwa lists a two-pallet changer and a 4/5 axis table for this model. The table of figures does not give pallet sizes or rotary-axis data for those versions, and the floor space of 1,660 x 3,223 mm (65.4 x 126.9 in) applies to the standard-stroke machine without chip conveyor.
