How much does the Kiwa KH-4200kai cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Kiwa KH-4200kai that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Kiwa KH-4200kai is a 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) pallet horizontal machining center whose Y axis is longer than its X and Z: 660 mm (26.0 in) of vertical travel against 560 mm (22.0 in) on the other two. It also moves quickly between cuts, with 90,000 mm/min (3,543 ipm) rapids and a B axis that indexes 90 deg in 0.58 s.
The tall Y stroke is what separates this model from the KH-4100kai, which shares the pallet size but has 510 mm (20.1 in) on all three axes. Here the maximum workpiece is Ø630 x 920 mm (Ø24.8 x 36.2 in), so a tombstone can carry more rows of parts before the spindle runs out of vertical reach. The swing extends well past the pallet edge, which leaves room for fixtures that overhang a 400 mm pallet.
With a full tombstone, the time between cuts adds up: rapid moves, face changes, tool changes. Kiwa quotes the B axis as an indexing time, 0.58 s per 90 deg, and that is the number a four-face part pays on every rotation. Taken with the 90,000 mm/min (3,543 ipm) rapid rate, it points the machine at parts with many light operations spread around a fixture.
Sixty tools are standard, and it is the only magazine size listed for this model, so plan the tool list around it. The KH-4500kai is the model that lists 120 and 240 tool magazines. The spindle is a 12,000 min-1 direct-drive unit, with 15,000 min-1 direct-drive and 20,000 min-1 built-in spindles as options. The taper is BT40, with CAT40 or HSK-A63 optional, and the FANUC 0i-MF Plus control can be replaced by the 31i-B Plus.
Two pallets are standard and a 5-pallet arrangement is an option. The machine is 1,620 mm (63.8 in) wide and occupies 1,722 x 4,131 mm (67.8 x 162.6 in) including the coolant tank and excluding the chip conveyor. The table gives no separate footprint for the 5-pallet version, so ask for that layout.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 90,000 mm/min (3,543 ipm) rapid traverse on X, Y and Z
- B axis indexes 90 deg in 0.58 s, which shortens every face change on four-sided work
- 660 mm (26.0 in) of Y travel over a 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) pallet, for taller fixtures than the 510 mm (20.1 in) Y of the KH-4100kai allows
- A 60-tool magazine is standard equipment
- Spindle choices run from the standard 12,000 min-1 direct drive to an optional 20,000 min-1 built-in unit, with HSK-A63 listed as a taper option
- Optional 5-pallet configuration for longer unattended running
Limitations
- The pallet stays at 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) with no larger size listed; the KH-4500kai lists an optional 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) pallet
- 60 tools is the only magazine size listed, so jobs needing more pockets point to the KH-4500kai with its optional 120 and 240 tool magazines
- X and Z travel are 560 mm (22.0 in) each, so the added capacity is vertical and long or deep parts gain little
- The 20,000 min-1 spindle, the HSK-A63 taper and the FANUC 31i-B Plus control are all options and not part of the standard machine

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Kiwa lists a B-axis indexing time of 0.58 s per 90 deg. The table states it as a time and gives no rotation speed. For a part machined on four faces, that is the delay added at each quarter turn, alongside 90,000 mm/min (3,543 ipm) rapids on the linear axes.
02
The pallet is the same 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in), but the KH-4200kai has more travel: 560 mm (22.0 in) in X and Z and 660 mm (26.0 in) in Y, against 510 mm (20.1 in) on every axis of the KH-4100kai. The KH-4100kai carries 40 tools with 60 as an option, while 60 is standard here. This model also adds options the KH-4100kai table does not show: a 20,000 min-1 built-in spindle, an HSK-A63 taper and a 5-pallet arrangement.
03
The magazine holds 60 tools, and no other magazine size is listed for this model. Two pallets of 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) are standard, with a 5-pallet configuration as an option. If the work needs more tools than that, the KH-4500kai lists 120 and 240 tool magazines.
04
Standard is a 12,000 min-1 direct-drive spindle with a BT40 taper. The options are a 15,000 min-1 direct-drive spindle and a 20,000 min-1 built-in spindle, and CAT40 or HSK-A63 in place of BT40. The table does not say which taper each spindle can be combined with, so confirm the pairing you want.
05
The maximum workpiece is Ø630 x 920 mm (Ø24.8 x 36.2 in). The machine is 1,620 mm (63.8 in) wide and its floor space is 1,722 x 4,131 mm (67.8 x 162.6 in), which includes the coolant tank and leaves out the chip conveyor.
