Overview

The Haas VF-3SSYT puts the 12,000 rpm spindle and 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min) rapids of the SS machines on the extended-Y frame: 40 × 26 × 25 in (1,016 × 660 × 635 mm) of travel over a 54 × 24 in (1,372 × 610 mm) table. It is a 40-taper vertical machining center for wide, light work done quickly.

Two siblings each have half of that. The VF-3SS has the same spindle, rapids and 30+1 tool changer but 20 in (508 mm) of Y and a 48 × 18 in (1,219 × 457 mm) table. The VF-3YT has the same travels and table as this machine but an 8,100 rpm spindle, 710 ipm (18 m/min) rapids and a 20-tool carousel. Against the VF-3YT, then, the SSYT moves between cuts at almost twice the rate.

What the SSYT does not have is the table rating of its slower twin.
