Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Juaristi MP5-RAM that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Juaristi MP5-RAM is the entry size of the MP-RAM floor type boring centers, the hydrostatically guided line. A 130-160 mm boring bar with 800 mm (31.5 in) of W travel sits in a 460 x 520 mm RAM whose Z stroke is 1,000-1,200 mm.
Hydrostatic guiding on all axes is the point of the series. The slides ride on an oil film on wide hardened and ground guides, and the RAM is fully enclosed with 4-sided hydrostatic guiding. For a buyer that means damping under heavy cuts and no stick-slip at fine feeds, in exchange for a hydraulic system that has to be kept clean and at temperature. Rapid feeds are a uniform 20-20-20-15 m/min in X, Y, Z and W, noticeably lower than the 35-30-30-15 m/min of the MX5-RAM, the same-size machine in Juaristi's other travelling column boring series.
Against that MX5-RAM, the MP5-RAM is the stronger spindle. Head power is 46/64 kW and torque 1,850-3,780 Nm (1,365-2,788 lb-ft) at 3,500–3,000 min-1 with 2 ranges, where the MX5-RAM lists 37/46 kW and 1,850-2,250 Nm. The boring bar sizes and W travel are the same.
Vertical travel begins at 2,000 mm and reaches 4,000 mm in 500 mm steps; X is 4,000 mm plus N x 2,000 mm. Juaristi adds a triple RAM compensation system covering column verticality, the head and RAM centre of gravity, and RAM straightness.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Hydrostatic guiding on all axes, with a fully enclosed, 4-sided hydrostatically guided RAM
- Spindle torque of 1,850-3,780 Nm with 46/64 kW
- Boring bar of 130-160 mm and 800 mm of W travel
- Triple RAM compensation: column verticality, centre of gravity and RAM straightness
- Spindle speed of 3,500–3,000 min-1, the highest in the MP-RAM table
Limitations
- Rapid feeds of 20-20-20-15 m/min
- Z stroke of 1,000-1,200 mm is the shortest in the MP-RAM table
- Vertical travel ends at 4,000 mm
- Hydrostatic systems add oil supply and temperature control to the installation, none of which is quantified on the page

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Juaristi states that the MP-RAM series has hydrostatic guiding on all axes, with wide hardened and ground guides, and a fully enclosed RAM guided hydrostatically on 4 sides. The moving parts are carried on pressurised oil instead of rolling elements, which the maker credits for very smooth movement.
02
Spindle power 46/64 kW (61.7/85.8 hp), spindle speed 3,500–3,000 min-1, spindle torque 1,850-3,780 Nm and 2 ranges. The boring bar diameter is 130-160 mm.
03
Both are travelling column boring centers with a 130-160 mm bar and 800 mm of W. The MP5-RAM is hydrostatically guided and lists 46/64 kW with torque up to 3,780 Nm; the MX5-RAM lists 37/46 kW and up to 2,250 Nm. The MX5-RAM is faster in traverse at 35-30-30-15 m/min, against 20-20-20-15 m/min here.

X is 4,000 mm plus N x 2,000 mm and Y is 2,000 mm plus N x 500 mm, up to 4,000 mm. The RAM stroke (Z) is 1,000-1,200 mm (39.4-47.2 in) and the bar travel (W) 800 mm.
