HNK HIB-12 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the HNK HIB-12 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from HNK or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The HNK HIB-12 is the smallest of the HIB high-speed horizontal boring and milling machines, a series HNK says is designed for high speed boring and milling in the die and mold industry. The spindle range is 50 to 12,000 rpm, several times the ceiling of HNK's conventional HB boring mills, and travels are 1,600 mm (63.0 in) in X, 1,500 mm (59.1 in) in Y and 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in Z.

HNK's description gives the two features behind that speed. The 12,000 rpm spindle is standard, and the axes run on linear motion guides, with feed up to 12,000 mm/min (472 ipm). On a mold cavity or a die insert that combination matters more than raw power: small ball-nose cutters need the rpm, and long finishing passes need the feed.

A boring mill layout brings something a vertical mold machine lacks. The W-axis quill extends 400 mm (15.7 in), so a deep pocket or a side core can be reached with a short tool, and chips fall away from a vertical face instead of collecting in the cavity.

The rotary table is 1,150 x 1,250 mm (45.3 x 49.2 in) and carries 5,000 kg (11,023 lb), with 0.001° indexing and pin location at every 90 position. Spindle diameter is printed as Ø200, with no unit. Fanuc 31i-B and Siemens 840D are the controls listed; no motor power is given.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 50 to 12,000 rpm spindle, stated by HNK as standard
  • Feed up to 12,000 mm/min (472 ipm) on linear motion guides
  • 400 mm (15.7 in) W-axis quill for reaching into cavities
  • Rotary table with 0.001° indexing for multi-face mold work

Limitations

  • 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) table load limits mold base size
  • W travel is 400 mm (15.7 in); the HB-130 boring mills have 700 mm (27.6 in)
  • Spindle power, taper and tool magazine are not listed on the page
06

Best For

Die and mold cavities up to 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) High-speed finishing with small cutters at up to 12,000 rpm Side-face and deep-pocket milling using the quill

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the HIB-12 different from a standard boring mill?

Speed. HNK equips the HIB series with a standard 12,000 rpm spindle and linear motion guides and quotes feed up to 12,000 mm/min (472 ipm). Its HB-110, a conventional boring mill with the same 1,150 x 1,250 mm (45.3 x 49.2 in) table, runs 5 to 3,000 rpm.

02 What are the travels of the HIB-12?

X (table longitudinal) 1,600 mm (63.0 in), Y (spindle vertical) 1,500 mm (59.1 in), Z (column cross) 1,200 mm (47.2 in) and W (spindle axial) 400 mm (15.7 in).

03 How large a mold can the HIB-12 take?

The table is 1,150 x 1,250 mm (45.3 x 49.2 in) and the maximum load 5,000 kg (11,023 lb). For heavier tools the HIB-16 takes 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) and the HIB-18 12,000 kg (26,455 lb).

04 Which spindle taper does the HIB-12 have?

HNK's table for the HIB series has no taper row and no motor power row. It gives a spindle diameter of Ø200 and a speed range of 50 to 12,000 rpm. Ask the maker for the tool interface before planning tooling.
